hey

I am going to try and arrange the allyearroundbiker.co.uk guys to come over my house around september time to do the ACF50 treatment. need some more people in attendance other than the handful of people i know who have bikes. figured it could also second as a social type situation for the org members from round these parts.

is anyone interested? it will be at my house in cardiff in september before weather goes wrong. i will supply tea and cakes and crumpets if your lucky.

and before anyone says - i know its a very lazy thing to do but i reckon they will do a better job of the whole process than i would.

I presume you mean All Year Biker (http://www.allyearbiker.co.uk/Bike_Protection/index.html)?

Sounds interesting...

I have a tin of ACF50 in the garage... Not used it as no idea how to apply it properly... Cardiff is too far, maybe you could take some how to pics... :)

Count me in, I would love to have the treatment done as I wanna ride Suzi all year around and don't need her dying on me mid-winter...

i will sort out a date for it in the week and post it on here. works out about £44 i think but will check all that.

check their website if you don't know what they do - seems good value.

This is what they do. I think it might be £50 for my SV as I got the 'full' fairing...

But, still worth is

Corf

Cymraeg_Atodeg

thats a bit expensive innit?

Cymraeg_Atodeg

Not if it means I don't have to worry about Suzi rotting underneath me during the winter

on a curvy the its that seem to suffer the most in the winter are the forks, all the brake callipers... I use my own acf50 and can't coat the bits that suffer the most...

I think I'll be up for this, I use my FS365 but getting a pro job done would be even nicer as it means my SV will not just sit and corrode over the winter while I'm indoors dying of pork flu.

so lemme get this straight......

your gonna pay, 50 whole English pounds for a man in overalls to pop round and do something thats pretty much a DIY job?

seriously, buy some in the bottle (with the pump-spray can) about £30-ish and will last ya several coats/coupla years. apply with a brush everywhere 'cept on ya brakes and tyres and use the spray can to get in the little gaps! it wont hurt electrics and will just burn off ya pipes. if it aint exposed it dont need it.

use protection when you ride! ;)

indeed, i dont like cake either,

but was hoping i could trade the cake for a nice bit of fruit.......... tea/coffee would be nice,

plus, i would watch the guy, start tutting and saying things like, is it meant to go on the brake disc?

Seeing as everyone else ignored your question kellyjo, here goes.

ACF50 is an anti weathering / anti corrosion spray on product. Their own advertising bumf claims its the same product that the US Navy use on their aircraft when they are on a carier out at sea (how true that is god only knows) and if it protects those telephone number priced jets, its gotta be good for your bike.

ive heard various reporst from peeps, ranging from how great it was to how poor it was. Most reports say its hard to clean off again as it sticks very well.

I've never used it myself but the SV does suffer in the bad weather, especially once the salt goes down as that cakes the engine etc and then dries off due to the heat and lets the salt get to work eating all the things that road salt finds yummy, which is basically mosy of your SV.

I sure as heck wouldnt pay anyone £50 to come and apply it for me but if it gives the OP confidence that someone who knows their thang has done it and hopfully done it well, then hey its his money and he can spend it how he likes of course.

Everyone seems to be so up-beat about this...

Look, nuts to it, I have never ridden a bike before February and I want to ride my bike all winter. I always find the best way to find out how to do something right it to watch someone who knows how to do it first. That’s how I now do all my own work on my car and bike to do with perishables and electronics.

I don't know where or how much of this stuff to put on my bike. I am going to pay 'some guy' £50 to treat Suzi the first time. I am going to watch him do it, because I assume he knows what he is doing as he has the overalls. I will then know how to do it, so, from then on I'll go out, buy the spray and can for £30 and Roberts your Father's brother, Suzi is safe for another year.

So, can we now leave the peer-pressure type comments out of it? If people want to do it they can, if you don't, then why make feel someone feel bad for wanting to do it? Especially those who don't know much about bikes as they might have never ridden much before...

If you want to wind someone up Hovis knows a good thread about some Scottish trip, a drunken joke and a ****ed off camp-site owner...

I am thankful for any help anyone is willing to offer, so thank you Hovis.

But, even if this stuff has a Placebo effect I don't mind as long as it makes me happy for the winter. She'll she washed everyday and I'll give her a good look over every day, but, as I said, the best way to find out how to do something is watch a professional first...

ya bike might be protected by the ACF50 but it won't help those slick tyres :-)

I am now thinking this might be a good idea as my clever managers have just let us into our new office, which has outdoor parking. Oh, the bicycles have a nice shelter to protect them, but motorcycles don't!

I should file a gravyance (like a grievance, but heartier).

I got a bike cover for Suzi for all year around... There are that many sea-gulls near where I would it would be silly not to cover her up...

this may not happen anyway now - the house i will be moving to and hope to do it at seems to be surrounded by crazy old ladies who hate everyone. i have been re-wiring it with a mate before i move in next month and already been shouted at by some old lady 3 doors down about my bike being parked outside MY house!! she called the permit people!!! i am going to ask the direct neighbours if its cool to do. we won't be on the street but out back on the rear lane access bit so should be fine. don't want to host this and then some childish bint call the police (although we are not doing anything wrong) and get hassled/receive tickets for small number plates etc.

will keep you informed.

off the point - just came back from stag do in edinburgh and if no one has been out there i strongly recommend it.

metalangel
13-07-09, 06:13 PM
Ignore her... I have had a Victor Meldrew-esque chap shout at me several times for parking my car outside his house (where it is legal to do so - and he even admitted this during his tirade) because he felt there were too many residents' cars on the street already without mine (who lives up on the corner and has double yellows out front! WTF am I meant to do?).

As long as we're not causing a nuisance or making noise and all our bikes are legal, what could the cops do?

Corf
14-07-09, 11:40 AM
yeah fair point. will inform them of it anyway so they know its happening. not like there will be a wheelie contest on the day......

metalangel
14-07-09, 05:31 PM
No wheelie contest? I changed my mind, not coming now. :p
