Which is the best way to do the Applecross (Bealach na Ba?) road? i.e To or From Applecross? Or should we just do both and get on with it?

Ultimately we'll be ending up in Gairloch, hacing just come from Fort Augustus so whatever fits in around that I suppose? (sorry, my geography up there is pretty poor...)

Cheers,
James

Since you'll have to get back from Applecross some time ( although permanent stay is an option ) why not do it both ways ?
Several times.
Best of luck with the weather - it helps if you can see where you're going up there!

We've done it both ways, twice:D

Fantastic whichever direction you do it!

If coming from Fort Augustus we'd do this route, also taking in the coastal road from Applecross.

Was over Saturday night.....again. It's becoming my regular establishment of fine (Rube's) ale.

Go from Lochcarron over the Bealach to Applecross first i'd say. Then coast road around to Sheildaig. Then do the whole lot in the other direction. It's definitely worth it James.

Now, get yer lid on and enjoy.:D

I've only done it one way (anti-clockwise), but I'd definately do the coastal road!

As you go from Lochcarron to Applecross, as you get to the top of the Bealach (the bit with the four (?) hairpin bends), it looks very much like it was built by the Incas (anyone else think that?).

Holy ****!!! Just back from our week's trip around Scotland, including the Applecross road (wow!).

A few of the many highlights were the road from Dalwhinny to Spean Bridge (goes past Laggon Dam), that was awesome, as was the big loop around Skye (taking in an all too brief pint with Mr & Mrs Haggis), the 'spirited run' between our B&B in Kyleachin to the ferry terminal at Armadale was great (that added bit of spice that we had 30 mins to do 35 miles to catch the ferry helped!)

But best of all - the road from Mallaig to Fort William. :smt110:smt110:smt110

A massive thanks to Haggis for that tip off - put simply, that is the finest strip of tarmac that I've ever had the privelege to ride on. The views & the bends were just out of this world, and I cannot wait to get back up there to do it again!!

Yowzer!! Well, I'd still rather do that again than visit the Millemium Dome, or host the Olympics I suppose!

Just back from a tour at the weekend, I nearly hit a car on the second last bend on the hill heading up to the top going towords Applecross, On a good note the pub in Applecross gets fresh sea food in straight off the boat.

Bealach na ba was on Police Camera Action tonight.
Sanctimonious prat was spouting on about how dangerous everything was. Nothing changes!
