Ok, its well documented that Venom had a big off at brands. I asked him if it was ok to post up the pictures I took, he said it is...but if the mods would prefer to not have this imagery up, then just remove the thread :)

Despite how bad the bike looks, Venom only sustained some bruising and grazing to his arm and to his leg (think it was his right leg...his boot was pulled off by a bent heel plate!)

GWS Venom, and despite your complete loss of desire to ride at the moment, I hope you'll get back on a bike in the not to distant future. I was very glad to see you back in the pits and not being carted off to hospital and I was relieved at the end of the day when you came for a walk up to druids

Annoyingly the alarm still wanted to go off whenever a fly landed on it and deafen us all in the garage, lol.

Loving the before and after shots. Almost as though you were rubbing it in a bit. :smt018
See you back out on the road again soon Gary. What happened on the track has no bearing in any way shape or form to road riding and your ability to ride.

are you covered?
that looks not far off a right off

Almost certainly a write off. I would guess it is not covered though :-(
That was a lot of dust kicked up. I must have gone through 80-100ft of gravel when I went back to look later that day. Didn't realise my bike ended up facing the wrong way until I saw yours and Sammy's photos.

I am very despondent over my riding. I am umming over whether to go ahead with my test ride I had booked for this Saturday before this happened. I don't think I'll be able to trade in 'Venom' anymore. The test ride might answer whether I will leave the biking fraternity or regain my desire to own a bike - prob not as I will be testing a BMW.

There is a theory that there may be a loophole.
If the insurance excludes racing, but not trackdays, then the briefing guy went to great lengths to stress that no race-related activity was to take place, be it timing, or testing of any kind.
So there is a good case that there was no racing, so if the policy is sloppily worded...
Here's hoping.
There is a theory that there may be a loophole.
He'd have to be very lucky, AFAIK most insurance companies closed that loophole a long time ago...

Good luck getting stuff sorted...

I was thrown into the wire fence which is very forgiving. My kit is fine, there is one small minor indentation on the polysterene in the inside of my helmet and a few scuffs and scratches on the outside. My leathers and gloves have a few tiny nicks and black marks on the light areas. My back and chest protector vest is fine. My right boot had been ripped off because I'd put a hook there to open the zip when the tag broke off, and that's where most of my bruising is, on my lower right leg.

I thought that as well, so just checked the ploicy for the RS and it says
"Your insurance does not cover the following...
any damage that happens while th emotorcycle is being used on any race track."

I'd say theres wiggle room there - just need a good lawyer who can argue that its only a race track when there is a race in progress, at other times its just a track.
Ok so its a slim hope but...

Gut instinct shouts bin it or keep it as an ornament. Only if you've got a red living room though... we all know you're still a right tart mate. It'd take more than a spill at Brands to change that ;)
Though if you've got it checked out with Shoei(?) and they say it's fine, then fair enough.

Gary you're a good rider. Try not to doubt that as a result of your off on a track. I've had trouble keep up through the pirbright bends more than you might think and I'm "a loon" in your words
Oh you tricked me! Just goes to show what the power of suggestion can do. I think your words were (this is when I'm trying to find out what bike it is a week or so ago) "Fine, I'll give you one clue... they also make cars, so that probably narrows it down to Honda and Suzuki."
How did I forget BMW?! lol
I'm guessing you're using the stealers in Slyfield for that then? Give it a shot. If you still feel you need a long (possibly very) break from biking then fair enough, however you may fall in love with riding again...
Forks and some risers and it could be back on the road... ;-)
Bring it round my garage with the bits and we'll sort it.

My bruises on my leg now look like this (ish, the colour's a bit off due to the energy saving light bulbs).

I have, correction - had, triple the power and a better handling bike so you were going to struggle on a lesser bike unless you are Ron Haslem... or actually someone that was super fast like most of the Soho lot.

After ending up with a metal plate holding my pelvis together & a broken back after my off last year, I said I would never ride a bike again. This lasted for about 3 weeks & then I started looking for another bike, the draw was just too great. 18 months down the line & I ride every day on the road & have also started to race on track (crashing in my 2nd race & cracking a couple of ribs). if you love biking, then you will get back on one because the voices in your head will tell you its ok.
Test ride the bimmer, but don't try to ride like a nob, ease yourself back into it. I still say that there is no feeling in the world like riding a bike & it would be a shame to throw it away over 1 off :)

Sounds good :D
you were not doing any of racing, pace-making, speed testing, rallies or trials and you were not on a race track wen you crashed. Race track suggests racing i.e. going all out to win at any cost What you were doing was noting of the sort. What they use the track for on other occasions is noting to do with you.
Seriously
you have a good case.
Just as well no one's ever crashed on an org rideout. It could aargueable be considered a rally wic none of us are insured for  :p

Sadly Stu this isn't gonna work. You know me, i'd love to think there was a loophole Gary could exploit here but the insurance will only say that Brands Hatch is primarily a race track and his bike was on the track at the time, ipso fact, QED, he's not covered.

When it comes to insurance, the FOS states that any major exclusions must be pointed out to the policy holder. If the section stating that you're not insured for any track activity isn't clearly highlighted, and wasn't explained to you at point-of-sale, you'd have a good case for going off the certificate alone.
Mr A accepted that he had left the car unattended. But he claimed that none of the policy documents that the firm had sent him (such as the policy schedule and certificate) referred to the ‘keys in car’ exclusion. The firm had set out the exclusion in the policy booklet but had done nothing to draw Mr A’s attention to it when it sold him the policy, as it should have done in accordance with industry guidelines. We therefore felt it was fair and reasonable to assume that Mr A had been prejudiced by the firm’s failure to highlight the clause. If the firm had clearly referred to the clause on the policy certificate or schedule, Mr A might well have acted differently.
At that point, the certificate clearly lays out the terms for exclusion, which are racing, pace-making, speed testing, rallies and trials. At the point of accident, the rider was doing none of these.

Whats the worst that can happen if he does try for it ?
As long as he is truthful about what happened, and so avoids any potential fraud issues, the worst they can do is say no.
Has GOT to be worth a try, especially with all those witnesses who heard the guy at the briefing state that there were to be no race-related activities.

Is this a request from Venom?
Otherwise, in the politest way possible, away and raffle yersel'
If upon discussing "Venom Down..." Venom learns that he has a very realistic chance of an insurance claim, I would think that would be a very good use of the org resources.

Yes it is a request from me. We've had a discussion about insurance in the IB thread (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=134926)
I feel this is a photo thread which has served its purpose of reminding me how shiny Autoglym Resin Polish and Gloss Protection made my bike :), and how my bike ended up in the gravel :(.
I have already contacted my insurance customer helpline to clarify exclusions*. The insurance and stuff like test rides was ok to start with (I posted up about it as well) but I really don't need 2 long threads full of chat and discussion about me and my bike. I will post any further comments about any further biking and insurance in the IB thread (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=134926).
