Coming out of Silverstone on Sunday, a lapse of concentration due to tiredness caused me to run into the back of someone at about 3 mph if that.

I kept turning the engine off as we were low on fuel, and trying to get out was gonna take ages, this particular time for some reason I left it in 1st gear and left the handbrake off, key started it and of course she bumped forward, I missed the brake for some reason and stamped the clutch down wondering why I wasn't stopping, all this in the space of about 2 foot caused me to run into the bloke in front.

Now, when we swapped details I said, looks okay to me, doesn't look like theres any damage except for that clip which I will happily replace mate, the guy replied 'no the bumper is likely to be cracked at the bottom and that will cost £300 to buy', how the feck did he know this? We didn't run into him dead centre and looking at this (http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w46/plowsie/DSCF1628.jpg) picture the only thing that resembles a crack could not have been us hitting him as the car (could just be a reflection of grass) could not have reached that spot, and it is not cracked to the edges :???:

So, I got back in the car kicking myself and really hacked off, man comes over and says, 'tell him to bugger off, its Private Land, he cannot do anything'. Is this true? As looking on websites, this is a fairly grey discussion.

Another thing to state, I am pretty sure he has no witness, neither do I. But I am addament (sp?) that that crack was not me.

As said, the little square clip was dinged but that is all to me was damaged...

NOW SORTED, BLOKEY RUNG ME AND SAID THAT THE REAR FOG LIGHT WAS CRACKED AND THERE IS A MINOR SCRATCH, KEEPING IT OUT OF INSURERS :D

'I'll be back' is so apt in this case...:D

So as said in the OP the bloke has called and agreed to settle outside the insurers (I mean, c-mon, my missus's excess is £400  (can see I never got involved with the insurance)).

I have just called Ford, the fog light unit will cost £18.10 + VAT (£20.82), they couldn't tell me the price of the scratch as this particular dealer is not equipped with a bodyshop, so, I'm just hoping that the labour isn't gonna come in at something stupid for the fog light now...

change the light yourself! It will take 5 mins if that.

I will see what he is gonna come out with for a full price, if it is <£100 I will just pay up, if not I will suggest I come and look at it and see if I can do it and bung him a couple of quid, I wish my missus had got a few more pictures as that fog light doesn't look cracked in that photo

Get a second hand one froma breakers for him mate. As long as its in decent nick he shouldnt care if it was new or not. His car didnt just come out the factory did it so its not like he needs a brand spanker as a replacment ;)

Result, spoke to the bloke yesterday, he ain't ar$ed about his fog light and can't be bothered to give ford bodyshop his car for 2 days, therefore he is getting Halfords to make him a touchy uppy jobby painter thingymajigg for £17. I'll send him £30 to keep the peace and for his hassle.
