MOT'd the bike this morning and paid for new tire and full brakes service at the tidy sum of around 250. This didnt bother me so much as its money well spent and will be worth it in the long run, whether I sell or keep the bike.
However, then went out to start the car, it turned over, I got a might bang, lots of smoke and one terminal BMW engine. Not sure quite what it is yet but it is almost certainly new car or new engine time.
Balls.
Ouch! What Bmw is/was it?

Timing belt snapped?
BMs have been known to do that.

Could be, it still runs but rough as hell and just cuts out if you try to rev it. I'm not hugely mechanically minded but I suspect it isnt good.

Wouldn't be running if the timing belt had gone

wouldnt that be accompanied by alot of water going?
Mind you, my dad did mention something to me a while back about 5 seiries having dodgy head gaskets. They also have something else go wrong which makes you think its a dodgy head gasket but its not
Not always. It all depends on how its blown. The one on my astra went between cylliders and not the water jacket so didnt loose water, but it went bang and run rough as Soulkisses beard!
