Hi,
I took out the missus on Sunday for the first time for both of us and since then I think the SV sounds different almost more mechanical if that makes sense a little noisier and chuggy when at low speeds? It used to have a little whistle at speed but no more.
Idea?

Oil level has dropped slightly but still well with limits, should I do an oil change?

Depends when it was last done of course but i cant see it being responsible if there is enough of it.
What sort of slow speeds? revs below 3k in 2nd gear and or above? thats when my likes to complain.

Wouldnt harm to top up the oil to be towards the upper limit...I notice my bike is louder when the oil is halfway or lower. An oil change would help, especialy if the oil is a bit old (greater than one year) or the bike has seen quite a few miles since the last oil change (greater than 5000)
Clean and lubricate the final drive chain aswell, i found that helps reduce noise.

Oil is only 5 mths old and has done just over 1000 miles, it's low speeds any gear around 5-35mph and a slight power loss between 3k and 5k rpm but it has more of a nocking noise now you can really here the pistons pumping away mainly from the front of the V twin, if that makes sense?
It's almost like a chugging tracktor.
I'll see about put up a sound bite or upload a video to youtube so you all can see what I mean.
I should also add it's just over 15k on clock so could be tappets?

Where abouts in mk are you? a very good friend of mine is a bike mechanic so I could ask him to pop over for you and have a listen.

When I take my wife out in the car I get a whining noise from the passenger seat if I corner quite heavily but this goes away when she gets out so probably not much help to you!

Oil sounds fine to me. I thiink its at 12,000 that you should have the service to check valve clearances so it may be worth doing that.

Well I went to 2 different garages and one said noisey water pump (ticking noise) and the other said no it's not it's your timimg chains. :smt021
Are these relativley simple to fix?

Is the noise apparent at any particular revs? A timing chain noise will be persistant through the rev-range. You can "listen" to the timing chain by putting a screw-driver to the engine and putting your ear to the other end - if it is a timing chain, its probably likely to be only on one cylinder.
I think you need to get a third opinon from someone, and dont tell them what anyone else has said. SV engines are noisy and they do have ticks and rattles and stuff...it might be a suzuki thing, as the bandit i've been riding also has some odd noises

It had a service about 1200 miles ago and it's chain tightened by garage 1 week ago, chain and sprockets were all fine then.
The noise is a tickingish noise at low revs and throughout but sounds at 5000 rpm + like it's doing 9000+ rpm.
