I could always leave you the bike while i go on honeymoon:rolleyes:

But really wouldn't learn much that way.

Don't you need to check/adjust the valve clearances at 15K too?

Wouldn't that be the doofer thingymibob for balancing the throttle bodies (TB) which Lance referred to in his last post?

Kilted Ginger

Dont know, it was a doofer thingymob for doing something technical, does a pointy with fuel injection even have throttle boddies???? meee know nothing..

Bibio
08-07-09, 05:09 PM

You... you.. Iv'e got the bike up on the paddock stand and trolley jack as we speak, thinking about doing the fork straightening thingy you suggested, just thinking about it mind, this is purely a jack balancing test lift...

Bibio

there is a hole at the bottom of the engine going right threw if you have a 10mm rod you can put it threw the hole and then use axil stands to keep the front up more secure. you can either use a trolley jack or front paddock stand to lift the front of the bike first then put it on axil stands. if you dont have a 10mm rod then put axil stands under the foot peg u frames. DO NOT WORK ON THE FRONT END USING A TROLLEY JACK.

this is what i use when doing front ends.

Indy definately has a doofer thingmybob for balancing the TBs... It's mine :D THough you're welcome to borrow it off, er, him. Or me.

Is it valves at 15000? Can't remember. Easy enough if it is though, sounds scary but isn't. Unless you drop a bolt down the cam tunnels into the engine.

Bibio
08-07-09, 06:49 PM
yup.. valve check at 15000. but to be honest if it has had regular oil changes with good oil then i doubt they they need done.

08-07-09, 06:55 PM
Yup... I mean, mine is on 40-odd thousand now and not a single gap out of spec, which isn't too amazing, but then it's not on the original cams either- the tolerancing's close enough that even putting in a fresh cam and moving one of the old ones everything's still bang on. The paint might be rubbish but the engine's quite well put together

Warning - lots of people have doofer thingmybobs, Husky has one and knows how to use it, but only Bibio has the required 10mm rod. It's his USP. :)

Cm'on now Captain Tiger 55 Sir, you've seen my garage, I've definately got 10mm rod, just not the know how as to where to stick it...

Sorry Cam, I seem to have completely hijacked your thread, I'm sure some nice mod person will delete all the offending posts if you ask him.

yes Bibio has a doofer thingimybobs, and knows how to use it.. :smt098.

connect hoses to vacuum points. then blank off. warm engine up then stop bike. lift tank, connect gauges, turn screw till volume is same and Bobs your auntie job done. its very very easy on a pointy. curvys are a nightmare to get at the front vacuum point and all that taking bloody air boxes off.

Jeezzzz! Bit of activity on this one!

Anyway, the full 15k involves valve clearance, timing and all that stuff.

As per service book.

Cost £240. Not really bothered if that seems expensive, happy with the service and know it's done properly.

As always bike felt nice after servicing. All I know is, I hate bikes with no screen or fairing..... Anything above legal mph starts to get uncomfortable unless you want to express your love for the fuel tank. Gave me a bandit 650 for the day, man it was quiet with the stock silencer.

Oh, worth mentioning that valve clearances need a totally cold engine, so if you're thinking of a communal thing with other people working on their bikes, it doesn't really work for that part.

how long does it take an sv to totally cool? turn up at mine, do other servicy things, do my valve thingymbobs, do others properlly after stuffing up mine:smt062

by the time we have lorne rolls, coffee and biccies, sure the engines will be cold:smt115

Traditionally you leave it overnight... Though to be honest this is one of those things where I don't really have an informed opinion, just repeating what I've heard from other folks ;) It may or may not make a difference with these engines, I dunno.

so how do they do a service in 2 hours of you dropping the bike off?

answers on a postcard...

edit: just ask me bro who used to be a bike mechanic for a well known stealer in edin...

answer: they do the minor service first then let the bike cool down to as much room temp as possible then check clearances... then fire bike up and do top ups...

By ignoring the Suzuki recommendations ;) The service manual specifies and stresses that it's to be done COLD several times (their caps), not coldish. One of the seperate manuals- can't recall if it's the Clymer or Haynes- recommends a 12 hour cool down time, and the service bulletin for the cam tensioner swap for the curvies also said overnight.

Like I say, I don't know whether it matters, just passing on the official word. Dealers do lots of things which aren't neccesarily right, but then at the same time Suzuki recommend lots of things that aren't neccesary.
