View Full Version : Heading to the AR09 from Portsmouth
So then. What's the plan for the ride up to the AR?
When are we leaving?
Where are we meeting up?
Where is it exactly?
I'll be getting on my bike at my house... you could meet me there. But I haven't decided a time...

OK mate. Will you be leaving at mid day(ish) or evening? I'd prefer to bimble uip at mid day(ish).
Will your bike make it or do I need to pack a tow rope?

I'm taking Friday off work so could meet people anywhere, anytime really, Lymington / Southampton / Portsmouth are all options...
edit: assuming I've bought a bike by then that is...

I'm hoping the tow rope will not be required, I'm not even sure which bike I will be on. Mid day is fine with me.

Any time is OK for me, they go hourly this time of year so I could be landing at Gunwharf whenever's suitable

Sounds like a most civilised way to start the ride up though:cool:
Ah best tell Jax then... I'll have to bribe her with shoes or something first. Probably not really, but the option is there.
Friday for me too, think it would be good to get up there afternoon simetime so we can get pitched up and have a few cans
Cake at Dan's sounds good, or we could meet at Loomies for brunch before we go, then head up the A32/A31 to Guildford, pick up the M25, stop at South Mimms services for fuel/fag/coffee break, and then all blat through the Dartford Tunnel before turning right for Essex :thumright:

They go every half hour so adding 15 min to get through portsmouth I can be there at 10:00/10:30/11:00/11:30 etc etc

I don't fancy a friday afternoon on the M25 if I'm honest, have GPS so more than willing to get lost and wander about the SE for a while then hop over the dartford crossing and nip up to the site...

Meh you big girls blouse, Formation High Speed Filtering is where its at...
OK you may have a point and on that barge of yours with those tin biscuit boxes on the back I guess filtering isnt going to be a huge amount of fun either...
I'll try to remember the cross country route to box-hill I normally take... its been a while you see.

We could try some green lanes to get there, how slick are your tyres on the GSXR?;):smt016

Option 1: A3 > Petersfield, A272 > A24
Option 2: A27 > Chichester, A285 > Petworth, A272 > A24
Option 3: A27 > Chichester, A29 (bit straight), A24
:D
I was thinking option two... but up the A29 rather then the A24.
I said I hate planning routes, but here it is - LINK (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=116721440238922423141.00046f5bf6b091b4ce826&ll=51.083685,-0.594635&spn=0.567645,1.049194&z=10) - as there is alot of us now, its nice to know.
I'm more then happy to carry on to the A24 though, or we could just play it by ear. If it rains I'm not sure I want to spend to much time on back roads.
Looks good Grinchy...
Some suggestions for those planning to meet at Box Hill.
Those coming from the west there's several options, here's a couple:
1. Pick up the A272 at Winchester, go straight through to the A24.
2. A303 > M3 > A31 > Guildford and then take the A246 to the A24 (Southbound).
South Wales/Bristol Crew - How about A420 > Chippenham, A4 > Newbury, A339 > Basingstoke, A30 > A287 > A31 > Guildford then as above. Or there's the M4 > A329/A322 > M3 > M25 J9 > A243 > A24
Just some ideas - A272 is worth it if you can. Loomies is on the A32/A272 junction.
Box Hill is on the A24 at the r/about just north of Dorking. Look for Westhumble on Google Maps. Approaching from the north there's a short slipway before the r/about straight into the carpark. From the south take a right at the r/about.
Aim to meet at 1:30 ????

Please remember to fill up before you get to my house... most people should be OK as its about 70 miles to box. There is a shell on the roundabout just before my house - Link (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Shell+portsmouth+London+road&sll=50.835188,-1.072261&sspn=0.008917,0.016394&gl=uk&ie=UTF8&ll=50.83569,-1.073549&spn=0.008917,0.016394&z=16&iwloc=A)- on London road. There is also a Jet garage, but I tend to avoid it as we have had a couple of problems with dodgy fuel from them.
I reckon that we will get to Box Hill between 1:30pm and 2pm.

Ah yes, I found out this evening that although the seat is kind of like sitting in a 100mph armchair, you can actually go one step further and put your feet up on the crash bars protecting the tank, then it's like a 100mph recliner chair, oh yeah:cool:
