PC won't boot up goes to black screen and last driver to load is

WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\agp440.sys

It did load properly once in safe mode and I tried the restore point function, but that failed to fix it.

now it won't load up in any safe mode

Have disabled this item after reading a mcrosoft help article, but system still refused to boot up, even in any of the safe modes.

It just stops in the booting up process

Before I do a reinstall of windows, after I've recovered all my important stuff, DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS :smt070

have you made any changes to the system before this happened? i.e. changed the graphics driver or anything?

this is if you are using xp and can boot to the recovery console to disable agp440.sys

No I hadn;t changed any settings

Aye did this and it didn't fix it, it just froze on loading on the next driver. But stripped it down & backed up the important files via a IDE - USB cable & changed the BIOS battery, low & behold it loaded up in safe mode. I ran disk check & that reported no problems. PC ran fine all afternoon, until I went to burn a backup disc of photos. Then the PC froze, so I had to hit the restart button, and the same problem returned

So maybe its getting hot?
