got some really bad pitting and paint flaking on the front edge.....and good recomendations for getting them sorted? are they easy enough to sand down and repaint, or cheap enough to replace?

You have a few choices, the lacquer is the main problem on the OEM fork bottoms.

You can polish them back to bare metal and leave them that way, looks quite attractive. If you want to refinish them use something like Plastikote or Smootherite paint, getting a real nice smooth finish if you let the paint go tacky and then give them a blow over with a heat gun.

Just dont re-lacquer them.

Or buy the lowers off me that i have going spare, take your time doing whatever to them (i went for the polished look last time and it was suprisingly easy to achieve) in your own time and them swap them over.
