View Full Version : What contract/phone for me?

My old Razr2 is starting to be broken, battery lasts about 10 minutes and it's 2 years old and time for a change.

Anyway, all I require from a phone is 3 things.

Must have an MP3 player (well nearly all have these nowadays so sort of irrelevant)
Must be able to be connected to my wireless router at home and have 3G, so I can browse the internet away from home as well
Must have AIM Instant Messanger and MSN (either built in, or be able to download software to run on the phone) - This is the most important thing

Basically I'm looking for a smartphone.

Anyway, my Dad has a Blackberry Bold 9000 and I had a play with it on Sunday, was quite complicated but then again it's a big step over my Razr, but I'm pretty tech savy and it wouldn't take me long to become super speedy.

I can get one on contract from 3, (my Dad's been with them for something like 4 years, he's had no problems, and I had a contract with them a couple of years ago, no problem again) and it comes on an 18 month contract with.. :

500 Minutes
Unlimited Texts
Blackberry Email & Internet Add On
Free SIM for your mate (irrelevant really but still, lmao)

For £30 a month which seems very reasonable, considering EVERY OTHER company is asking for an upfront £80 or so on a contract of less than £40. You can also download an AIM app for this phone, I couldn't try this with my Dads (wouldn't let me :compcrash:) but I hear it works fine.

But I also have looked at the Nokia E63 which comes with 200 minutes, unlimited text and internet, for £20 a month, however I'm not sure if you can download and run AIM on this device.

The iPhone is too expensive, it's like £45 a month and you have to put £75 down.

Are there any other decent smartphones people would recommend? Basically so long as I can run AIM and MSN I don't care.

Any suggestions? Looking for a contract with unlimited internet/500+(unlimited) texts with no cash upfront and on a contract of up to £30.

ta in advance, lmao

Are you on a contract right now? If so, ring up another company and ask what they can do..see if they can better your exisiting offer. Then ring up your existing provider and say you're leaving because you've found a better deal. 95% of the time they will try and better it.

Takes time but you can get some really good deals, especially if your existing provider thinks you are going to leave.

Damn, if only you had said contract up to £35/month. That's what I'm on and I think it fits all the rest of your criteria...

Blackberry phone are good but mostly aimed at the buseness world. The new Nokia N97 looks good along with the Omnia HD(my choice) and with the omnia it even has HD video recording, a cracking device.

What good deals are out there right now?

I pay £20/month and get 1100 minutes talk/text but no web casue that is extra.

I could work off probally 800 minutes/month with some text, but I wouldn't mind web on the phone. So whats good then? I want to spend as little as possiable after having a cheap phone.

What r good phone right now? It would be useful to have something that connects to a pc and links with outlook.

Three is getting annoying with drop out, my contract is up in September.
