View Full Version : Flashed by a camera last night- front facing

I was riding on the A3 from Roehampton- got an orange flash in the face from that new camera (is it average speed?) just before the Robin Hood junction.

There was another camera next to it pointing down the road (ie at the back of the bike)- but I saw no flash from that. Am I to assume that I'm in the clear?

Or will face recognition software get me?

Last time I really payed attention to the camera, there was a sign saying it was being tested. I guess they'd still use it to push a prosecution though...

yep. they'll get you with face recognition cameras. i assume that they have your mugshot on their system from previous misdemeanours? when you were riding, were you holding a board with your criminal number underneath, then give them a profile shot?

dont drop the soap.

If you make repeated offences, they might start making efforts to identify you. But if this is the only time, they'll probably not bother

Orange flash?

You sure it wasn't just the setting sun reflecting?

That can see through a helmet?

I'll state now that my face-recognition comment was somewhat tongue in cheek- sorry for the lack of useful smileys to note this.

Yeah- it was an orange flash. I'd assume that they are doing that to avoid completely dazzling you with a bright white light (which would more likely cause accidents that the speed cameras are "trying to prevent" (read as make some extra cash)).

Nah- not the setting sun. That was gone by that time.

I'd slowed by the time I was in front of the second camera, so perhaps that didn't trigger it?

The dumb thing is that I'd reminded myself that the camera was there as I was coming down the hill- but sort of forgot when I got there!

Orange flash? That would be the bikes ignition system setting fire to the involuntary emissions from the riders ar3e as the camera went off.:laughat:

If it helps put you mind at rest, someone i know (ahem) steams through there most days and has never had a problem, even with the occasional flash from the front-facing camera.

Would suggest you slow up for the rear-facing one tho ;)

Cheers Fizzy. Was what I expected.

However if you are a repeat offender and they do catch you on a rear facing they run the pic through a database of bikes that have sailed through forward facers for matches and might summon you to court if they have some evidence.

Or so I heard...not sure how reliable the source of that ifno was though...
I just bear it in mind and avoid going through them for the sake of it.

I have been riding through a camera for five years making it flash. Its a 30 zomne and I have been prob 2 times (maybe 3x) that and never had a peep. haha i use the finger sometimes!

front cameras / dark visors = we win!

If I remember correctly, the particular camera is on trial at the moment- could just be some new technology they're testing...

Though, in fairness, there was a rider convicted doing the same either last year or the year before and they did catch up with him in the end...

I reckon I do that camera 12 times a week.

Yeah, I've never seen that type of set up anywhere else. Did try and find out more when it was first installed, but didn't really get any concrete info about it, just lots of idle forum speculation!

I drive all of the uk for work, and never had a prob with average cams at time even flying throught them in car, van or bike. the only flash i have seen from them is really a refection of headlights.

Also ANPR cameras are on bridges and next to speed cams these days.

from talking to a traffic plod - if you keep going through the same forward facing camera time and again breaking the limit they will try and find you.

although the story that i heard they did wait till the guy had done it about 80 times....

You know how to fix the issue? Tyre, petrol and a match (or a few as they always go out too quick :p). :D

I passed the camera again last night- does look like the second camera is probably anpr- small camera and not apparently fitted with flash...

There is a very similar camera to the one you triggered near where I live, and this too is on trial. As a courier ,myself and my colleagues at work were warned about it by our boss, but told as it was on trial the scamera partnership can't use it to prosecute, only to gain information.

if you keep flying through forward facing cameras you will notice a bike camera set up in the next lay by appearing a few weeks later. ( as happened to me )
