View Full Version : HID headlight upgrade - curvy
Hi Guys I'm upgrading to hID headlights,
I've looked on ebay and there is a UK (London) based power seller offering a 2 year warranty.
Has anyone done the HID route and found any issues?
Gav
Speak to Northwind... he's done the whole HID thing. There should be some posts in his name too as you will have trouble searching as the forum doesn't index 3 letter words like HID. Headlight and 'Northwinds' user name might be a better key for a search.

Also try searching Xenon or Ballast
Has anyone done it more recently with one of the cheaper £35 kits now that prices have dropped massively and they have slim ballasts?
Remember, you get what you pay for Gav, you really do with this kind of thing.
only trouble with the cheap ebay ones is the beam pattern.. to be honest i would stick to using hids4u.co.uk they may not be the cheapest but they are the best. just enter the word STRATHY to get 20% off..
also dont get the chavvy 6000k get the nice white 5000k after all its light output you want...
HID's are the way to go, riding at night is so much better plus you can 'spot the cops' from miles away as reflective stuff is light up like blackpool illuminations...

Use the code "strathy" at the checkout for a discount
Used them several times now and they've always been great:cool:
edit: ****, answered the door while replying...
and 6000K isn't chav, 8000K+ is, 6000K is white:p
ooooohhh one other thing. you WILL have to set the beam pattern after you fit them. but a nice white wall and a screwdriver should see you ok...
no 5000k is white 6000k is hint of chav.

and as no one has mentioned it, illegal as well, never known anyone stopped for it, but have had one bike fail an MOT, just so you know.
Cheers Mark.

now only a hint?
Legally speaking I'm not worried as they are plug and play so will just plug in a standard bulb.
The ebay sets do have a 2 year warranty though

I converted mine at the beginning of the year to H4-4 and they're awesome. Its been through an MOT and passed and I haven't been pulled by the Feds, but they are bright and the lenses are totally overwhelmed, meaning adjusting them doesn't really do much. I have annoyed the odd car driver and get flashed now and again so if I do get stuck behind another car I back off a little.
I bought the cheapest ones I could find from ebay and they have been working fine. The ballasts are full size so are a little big and heavy to find a home for (there are 4). The only problem I have had is my home made bracket fatiguing and breaking (as ballasts are pretty heavy), and the rubbish charging system on a curvey struggling to cope (they pull more current then standard bulbs - nearly double on start up). So I never switch the lights on until after the bike is running. Other than that I highly recommend them and riding at night is so much nicer and more relaxing.
