I need an MOT / big service on the bike I've just finished rebuilding, can anyone recommend a decent reliable garage that will do a thorough job?

*edit* I'm aware of Mr Pigs, and I have had a look through the search function but a lot of what I found were very old posts and peoples opinions might have changed since.

ESB Bolton, Allbikes Rochdale, anyone have (recent) opinions on these?

Yeah I took my engines there to get help with swapping over a rotor, he's obviously a skilled mechanic but he spent 20 minutes lecturing me on why it should be against the law for people to perform DIY jobs on their own vehicles! (although to be fair the reason I was swapping the rotor over was my fault :D)

I could kind of understand where he was coming from but he was of the opinion that these kind of forums are full of bad advice and clueless people, so I'm not sure he'll be too keen on servicing a bike I've rebuilt myself!

Who cares if he's keen or not? He gets paid to fix your bike, let him grumble about it when you're not there. :smt023

Allbikes haven't got an opening to do it until the 28th so I didn't ask for a price from them. Just rang Mr Pigs but it's engaged, i'll try again later and let you know.

Hindle, which ASDA is it near mate.

Mine needs it's 19K service and I don't have time to do it myself. Wouldn't mind having a chat with this chap.

Cheers Hindle.

Tried B&C Girth when I was getting my chain fitted. Was quoted £200 but that was for a full service (before I knew what was needed) with only valves being left out. I may give them a call anyway but it did put me off a bit.

For the MOT try Concorde Motorcycles in Farnworth, i think it might be the one Hindle is talking about. Think they do servicing aswell.

I decided to give Mr Pigs another go, so it's with him at the minute. Will update with the price once I know what it is, he reckoned about 4 hours @ £33/hour for the service.

This is starting to get annoying - I dropped off my bike at Mr. Pigs last Saturday and he said it'd be done by the middle of the week. When I rang on Weds he said it'd slipped to today, but I rang this morning and it's not going to be ready till Tuesday now!

If it's not ready on Tuesday I'm going to pick it up and give this guy Brian a call.

I wouldn't have that at all mate. I had good service from him but certainly wouldn't be happy to pay him for a job thats taken over a week rather than a couple of days

Hi, I have a pair of the new tyres and I have to fit them on. I went to Mr Pig yesterday and I think that he wants a little too much for this job. Do you know any garage where I can fit my tyres for normal price?
Cheers

How did your service go mate ?

Everything went fine thanks, clearances were all within spec, MOT passed successfully.

£130 for the clearances and a few other bits and pieces that I'd missed. I have to be honest and say that Ian at Mr Pigs is a decent bloke and obviously puts a lot of care and attention into his work - I just wish he'd been a bit more accurate with the timing. Fortunately I had alternate means of transport so the delay didn't affect me a great deal but if the bike was my only way to commute I'd have been knackered and not a happy bunny.
