Na, they counter the effects of having a topbox. I'm thinking of getting one too, need some more power
:makelurve:
Basically, it removes the timing retardation in the lower gears (i think?), hence increaseing power in those gears. For the SV, there is very little (if any?) power cut in the lower gears. For something like a GSXR1000 though, you would notice a benefit of removing such a restriction.
Short answer is yes it's a waste. It's suppose to remove the ignition retard on 2nd & 3rd gears. If there is any improvement in those gears it's negligeable, and in any case the same effect can be had by disconnecting a wire.
This makes it fairly poor value for money.

On the curvy yes, on the injected setup you solder in a resistor.
£0.05 compared to £36. You are paying for a resistor in a box.

I can vouch that these actually work, my torque increased by 16% and my bhp went from 119 to 410... well worth it for £36 imo :)
Don't listen to YC he doesn't know what he's on about. He's actually works for vodafone in a call centre and doesn't even know whether there's such a thing as a "Mechanical Engineering" degree

Now now, stop having a poke at Yorkie! He may work for Vodafone during the day, but at night he's out in his shed bashing things with his big hammer 'Tha knows' :D:D

LOL,
Perhaps I should have put "retarded" since that makes more sense. Does it make that bigger difference to the SV?
I know on the Falco it made a massive difference at the bottom end of my power (as well as better fuelling, look at the bottom of the Dyno)... But my ECU is too basic to retard in just certain gears :(

Mine is a bit retarded  but its a wonderful retard, i love it to bits and will continue to nurse it for years to come

No. I found in the relevant gears (2nd and 3rd) on my curvy, it chugs less at REALLY low revs, but otherwise that's it. I did the free version though. The TRE box connects to the gearbox switch wiring so it only fools the CDI, it can't do anything else unless it's by ESP. Maybe you get more power, maybe you eat less pies, I noticed nothing frankly so neither did I see a reason to bother undoing the change.

Your ALL wrong , what the TRE really does is clog forums up with multiple "Is it any use" threads and makes eBay sellers a pretty penny for hardly any cost at all . I am thinking of selling "Bike to Bike" intercoms , they really work and all it costs me is 2 empty Yoghurt pots and a bit of string ;)

No they are Analog as I find that they can be repaired anywhere in the world and are far more reliable than Digital ones . Fitting is easy , cut string to length and tie knot on loose end , pull tight .............. hey presto !!!! Instant Comm channel opened :)

Not normally one to reply in "txt spk" mate
Gr33ky boy, that means the falco is more retarded than the SV... is that why "a falco would be sh*t"?
OP, Clicky (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=tre+mod+site%3Aforums.sv650.org) should answer your question ;). In a nutshell it will not give you any real difference, but then nothing that costs £25 would add a great amount to the performance
