As per title, in order for me to be allowed on a track with my bike (I only have a restricted licence) I will need the ACU licence. Now regarding the application form, when choosing the disiplines I wish to apply for I'm guessing I want to go for the novice road race? As that is the only one I can see applying? Of would it be the FIM international non championship?

Sorry for all the questions!

Cheers,
Ash

Hi Ash,

It's been a while since I first applied for mine but you don't need to go for the international - just the novice road race. I've got a feeling there's an extra charge associated with the international too.

Yep, novice road race. You also need to attend a classroom training session these days if its your first race licence.

Be aware, AFAIK, if you have an ACU license, some trackdays will put you straight into the fast group...

in which case you should tell them not to unless you feel confident enough and that your bike is quick enough to justify being there. Having an ACU licence does not imply that you are either fast or experienced at track riding.

Every wednesday... I think. Check out the ACU website.

some race clubs run them too to save you travelling all the way to Rugby.

website is shocking to find anything on, i will just call them up in the morning, need to get a medical and eye test done for it as well! Cant see how having an ACU licence is better than having a restricted licence, very frustrating!

Let me know what you find out. I'd be interested in taking one of these.

It might be an idea to get a bullet point step by step or something. Maybe we could sticky a thread in the Racing and Paddock Chat section, as i seem to remember a lot of threads often discuss this...

Just a thought.

Yeah dont worry i will post what i find out for you all, i just know as soon as i have this licence it will tempt me into start attending some hill climbs, then the slippery slope into racing will begin!

Any news?

Are you knocking on the door of WSB yet?

At the Grampian Motorcycle Convention Sally asked the Knockhill people about restricted license trackdays - the guy on the stall didnt know, but rang the office and it seems that they do them.

So you could head North and avoid the ACU thing, or, just ring round the tracks and ask...
