Hi there,

Was wheeling my bike back into my motorbike shed and i heard a ticking noise and i'm pretty sure it was my rear wheel bearings gone. I had my cush drive off when i had a new tyre put on and the bearing looked shot but i greased it up hoping it would fix it but it's gone now i think.

Is there any other possiblity its something else?

That's usually an indicator the sprocket is reaching the end of its days.
Does the chain adjust up ok? and also how far can you pull the chain away from the sprocket?

sorry new C+S 2k ago. And the 3 o clock thing is okay, minimal (if any) movement.

face the rear sprocket and go to the 3 0'clock position on it. Can you pull the chain far enough away from the sprocket to see daylight through the gap?

If you already know the rear wheel bearing is shot I reckon thats likely to be your problem. It needs fixing so Id start there.

can also be a brake pad lifting and falling in a caliper on a high spot on a disc...

I'd give the bback brake a good look over next then.

Okay. Anything i can do about it? Don't really want to have to replace a disc?

Only cleaned the back brake 6 months ago and added braided lines too. Grrr.

You prob have checked this but is the chain dry? If the links are stiff you will get all sorts of weird noises when you wheel the bike,

Have given it a good going over with used oil and lube about 100 miles ago. I will try it too.

dont worry about it unless the disc is foobar.. mine do it a little as the pads are a little ill fitting (due for replacement sooooon)

get the front/rear wheel up on a paddock stand then spin wheel and listen/feel for tight/loose spots, if you find one move that spot up and down to see if the pads are moving..

And this thick idiot has remebered this is how you check bearings too. (Paddock and listen for noise)

The SV brakes are just shocking in general.

Keep a good eye out for daft things like stones stuck in odd places. I had a funny noise coming from my back wheel once, that turned out to be a nail in the tyre hitting something on the way round.
