as I have put on my face book.. due to credit crunch/ recession I am cutting back , and had beans on toast for my lunch.
something in "better" times I would never really consider , it would not be a thought- I would have gravitated to steak... always..
however- wowwww I forgot how nice beans on toast is.. yum
So- what do you enjoy now then.. that maybe you didnt used to have or do..

beans on toast have always tasted great! what you been eating all your life. nothing in my life has changed, being a teenager the credit crunch hasn't really affected me...yet :smt107
Jam sandwiches.
Although a few years ago when I used to take a packed lunch to work, my wife wouldn't let me have jam sandwiches. She wanted me to have "real" sandwiches.

Funnily enough, i have only recently started eating beans again but not for credit crunch reasons.
I stopped eating them because i have a mild dose of IBS and at the time they seem to trigger me off, but ate some recently and i was fine so have them occasionally now and they are ace.

Now there's something we can disagree on... Personally, I just don't like beans. Hateful things.
I'm pretty open minded when it comes to food, and there's very few things I won't eat or cook, but beans just aren't right.

Mmmmmmm, Beans on toast, YUM!
I also like waffles, topped with cheese and then really hot baked beans to melt the cheese......Nomnomnomnomnom.
Tonight made risotto with mushrooms, a bit of stilton, nutmeg and parsley....about 70pence per serving and really delicious! You don't have to spend lots of money to have good food! The last recipe I put on here feeds 4 with a big hunk of beef and that's only £2.50 per serving.

Toast with Branston pickle, then covered with cheese and back under the grill.
Served with baked beans, and scrambled egg with black pepper.

boiled egg and toast soldiers. couldnt eat egg when I was pregnant, cant get enough of them now, nice and runny yolk
Have to be Heinz beans. Nothing else compares. Eat beans on toast quite a bit. There are several different ways to eat beans on toast so never get bored of it. Nice quick and healthy food. Not so sure about cheap though. Heinz beans are way more expensive than some you can get. But you sure can taste the difference.

I adore beans on toast with a mug of tea while watching some motorcycle racing :D Add some grated cheddar cheese and some white pepper, that there is a meal fit for a king :king:
I also enjoy cheese on toast, with slices of tomato, yessss food win!
mmmmm beans on toast. I will not be home until at least 10 tonight but I now know what I will be having.
This is my recipe to the perfect B on T
Cook beans on low heat for 20 mins stirring so they do not stick to the pan but do boil off the majority of the liquid.
Leave for 5 minutes
Add Vindaloo curry powder, a good dollop of brown sauce and Worcestershire sauce.
Stir in well and reheat for 10min
Drop the whole lot on 1 slice of toast and have another on the side and add grated cheese

bleurgh. I never liked beans, and then when I was at primary school I was given them for lunch and refused to eat them. The staff helpfully held me down and force fed me, and I violently sicked it all up again (hopefully all over the 'nice' inner lady - I can't remember, but I really hope so).
Even the sight of beans still makes me heave over thirty years on.
simple tea and toast always hits the spot though.
Heinz spaghetti on toast...

Fish finger sandwiches.

Damn you woman!!! I now have such a major craving for fish fingers that i'm gonna get dressed and go to the shop to get some. And some cheap n nasty white bread to go with it. Buttered one side and ketchup on the other. mmmmmmmm, drool.
Mmmm, beans on toast...
So nice with lots of black pepper and melted cheese on top
:)
I tend to melt the cheese into the beans as they heat up and then lots of freshly ground coarse black pepper. mmmm, mmmm, mmmmmmmm..

But yes, Im another fan of baked beans. I had them for the first time in years the other day - slice of cheese on toast with hot beans poured on top..yummo!! :smt023
In answer to what Quiff raised: It hasn't taken the credit crunch to make me enjoy the simple things in life, Ive always enjoyed simple things. Simple things make me happy :D I guess thats why Ive not really been affected by the credit crunch. I still do everything I used to do!
Although..the only real change ive made is that I've quit the gym (due to a new job with less money) and decided to go running in the park for free. Oh, and rollerskating :D im not too bad now - managed to get to the park and back in one piece
