Ok so I was bored and a little bit drunk recently and for some reason I bid for and won a Stebel Nautilus Horn (the small version).

It has arrived but as it was previously on a bike there are no fitting instructions for it.

Can anyone please tell me how easy it will be to fit to my bike and how to do it?

Thanks

if i can't get it fitted to my bike i may try and fit it on one of the cars.

you could just connect it to the wires you already have from your horn,

but

some say you need to fit a relay, some say you dont

Thanks Hovis.

What would happen if I didn't fit a relay when it should possibly have one?

im not sure, i remember i was in the same boat, and could not be bothered with the relay. so did not fit it

i think it may melt the wires, and burn somthing out?

theres a thread on here all about it, but may take some searching?

Thanks again Hovis.

I may have to seek the advice from a very well mechanically educated friend to see what he thinks. :notworthy:

Stebel Nautilus is an air horn and WILL overload your horn wiring without a relay. Fit a relay and save your wiring, it's really not hard at all.

It is hard when like me I have no idea what you mean by or how to fit a relay.

I would rather not attempt it in case I messed up and caused a lot more damage and expense to fix.

I have a Stebel Magnum with no relay (instructions said you didn't need one) and that works fine but the Nautilus comes with a relay and is apparently much louder then the Magnum (therfore must use more current).

The webshop I bought my horn from has some fitting instructions for the Nautilus too......albeit for a beemer.

The nautilus is a completely different design to the magnum, and will draw ~20A when activated

Wire it directly to the battery and switch it with a relay, or you will almost certainly damage your SV's wiring...

Thanks Blue Flame. I am in no rush to fit it so will no doubt catch up with you at some point - unless you want a wee run out sometime and are heading my way and want a brew!

I stuck one on my Daytona. Space was a problem, but if you look you can seperate the horn (plastic bit) from the compressor. You can then link them together with a length of hose.
This ment I could fit the compressor under the pillion seat and the actual spout is at the front of the bike.
I also used the relay but fitted the whole thing in such a way that i didn't alter the bikes original wireing at all. The holw thing can be put back to standard in minutes.

how did you do this mate? trying to find somewhere to stick this on the ADV and i'm worried i'm going to break it. is it just a case of pulling the two tabs back and smacking the compressor tube out of the horn assembly?

I bolted mine to the side of the radiator with a bit of metal and wired it directly to the battery using a relay and in line fuse. I can pop over and give you a hand if you want

If I remember corectly, there are two plastic tabs that hook over some metal luggs on the compressor. You need to carefully bend the tabs clear of the luggs then the two halfs just pull apart.
Once you have the two parts you need some hose to join them together. The plastic half has a female and the compressor has a male conection.
Halfords stock a plastic hose conector, you will need to glue one into the hole in the plastic part so you have a male at both ends to push the hose over.
As I said I have the compressor mounted in the tail and the horn at the front of the bike so the hose I used to join the two runs the entire length of the bike.
It is still f**king loud!

I think I've got a spare one you can have. If not you get them in halfords
You'll also need decent size cable and spade connectors/crimps and a crimper. And round connectors for the battery
