One of the guys I know passed his test on january this year and bought his first bike, a brand new VFR 800.
The VFR was a great bike for him to learn on, hes 6 foot 4 so would be a little cramped on most sports bikes.
After going out with him once or twice I had some concerns...
He was riding way too fast, over taking on double white lines and was just risking far too much in order to keep up with the faster boys.
We all told him to get some extra training in order to get the most from his bike and to polish off some of his skills...a polite way of telling him hes gonna die on a bike.
Well, there really is no telling some people.
He went and booked a california superbike school day and then went and bought a new bike....
His arguement was that his bike couldnt keep up with other bikes..sv650, ducati 748, gsxr 600 etc.
His new bike was taken to silverstone this week (monday) and pictures are attached...

So how many of you would have leathered him with your lid for taking you and your R1 out then?
Hes fine and has said that it will slow him down a bit but still an expensive lesson to learn.
He wouldn't get found. :p

I'm seriously suprised that he didn't get battered. I realised early on in my riding career that the SV was plenty fast enough, but my riding skills/experience were less adequate.
a fool and a ducati are soon parted...
how does it work if you "take someone out" on track?
ie its not your fault, but your bike is toast?
and you have no trackday insurance

You walk away with damage to your bike and find the cash to repair it.
Trackdays= you pays your monies, you takes your chances.

Which is why, if he didn't pay, he wouldn't be found! ;)
Normally its a gentlemans agreemant, if you ride like a **** and take someone off you would at least help contribute to some of the repair costs unless you are a complete arrogant twunt.
How the hell do you take someone off at the CSB anyway, they are fairly sedate days anyway.

Just goes to show that money cant buy talent though.
I used to do some work for this guy but hes just got so arogant that he was even laughing about it afterwards.

The CSB was 2 weeks ago.
He got the taste for trackdays and then bought this.
150 into a right bend on the right hand side of the track... obviously learnt a lot as CSB:rolleyes:

Numpty... end of...
Who would take a brand new 1198S on a track, as an inexperienced rider, anyways?!?!
More money than sense strikes again!
VFR should have kept up with an SV650 surely....
VFR has 100 bhp, so should leave an SV behind with the same level of ability pilots.

There you go.
I rest my case ;)
If he took me out like that on a trackday I'd be chasing him through the courts if he didn't offer to put the damage right.
Tell your mate to chill out, and if he's arrogant about it ask him if he likes sex and travel.

looks like he's loaded, 1198, Alpinestars etc, so he probably doesn't give a toss. Feel well sorry for the R1 rider, taken out by a penis that thinks he's fast.

His attitude to riding by the sounds of him got what he deserved. You don't need a fast bike to keep up, just ability imo, but then again I'm an unexperienced rider only riding since March.

i dont think you would have much luck there:(

bikes can be replaced, but in this case i'd advise against it...

I'm interested to know if anyone has actually been successful claiming off someone for a trackday incident. I know what you''re saying Hovis but I'd give it a damn good go. Every trackday I've been to they have briefed us saying it's not a race, give everyone plenty of room etc, and if I was punted off by someone through no fault of their own then fair play. However, if someone was clearly riding like a kn*b then in my eyes they have broken the rules and should be held accountable in some way......either though being banned from further trackdays with a company or being held liable for any damage caused.
It really boils my p*ss when people think they are riding gods on trackdays when they very clearly aren't. There were a few non-orgers on the recent Brands Indy trackday that fitted in this category and I did my best to stay very clear of them.

You pays your money and makes your choice. Everybody knows the potential for ending up in someone elses accident. I would have hoped that the TD organisers would have warned him about his behaviour if he'd had finished the session or red flagged him if he really was dangerous. Wonder what group he was in. Did he think riding the Ducati automatically made him an experienced track dayer.
At least it happened on a track. Would almost certainly have been far worse for both riders if it had happened on the Queens Highway.
With Pete here. Do you know what group he was in Speedplay?
I think despite probably not being able to repay the cost of an R1, i'd at least send my apologies his way and re-imburse him as much money as i could. But then, knowing i couldn't afford an R1, would be careful and not try anything stupid around anyone.
Do you know what happened as an outcome of this Speedplay? Did your mate pop over and apologise/offer to fund a new bike?

Hes a guy I used to work for and NOT a mate!!
Tried to tell him to take it steady but "he knows best"

Hes "comfortable" shall we say.
More money than sense and certainly more money than taste.
I felt for the guy with the R1 too.

He was in the intermediates class.
And he just walked away from it.
No "sorry I trashed your bike" just a case of "oh well".
Got pictures of him laughing about it too.
lets just say what little respect I had for him has totally gone now.

What a wank*r! Surely he can't seriously have thought a VFR wasn't capable of keeping up with an SV  Did he not consider the specs.
I feel gutted for the guy on the R1. If I were him, I'd have certainly hit him with something hard if I saw him laughing about it.
-Ralph-
26-07-09, 05:54 PM
But did he hit the R1 and take the R1 out? Or did he bin it, then the R1 hit him? If the latter then that's the R1's look out.
The whole point of a track day is to push your bike harder than you can on the road, so everyone is more likely to bin it on a track day, stay clear of other riders if you value your bike more than your lap times.

such an expensive bike. and not a crash bobbin in sight? what a T**t
did you speak to the r1 guy after?
thedonal
26-07-09, 07:23 PM
People who can't be told won't be told.
If he didn't listen to mates telling him to take it easy and didn't listen to instructors, then he's going to mince himself on a bike!
Honestly, why pay for a training day when you think you already know everything?!
I feel for that R1 rider...

Now you see if he had full wets on the bike like the proffesionals he woudl have been the slowest thing on the track and therefore safe.

At brands, this sort of thing was going on alot

Does no-one ever go over to the orgenisors to complain?
I have had this on car track days. Gone to orgenisors to complain about the bad driving from someone.
The other driver threw a hissy fit, but i mearly replied "well get out the F*c*ing way then like you were told too. Coming OFF the throttle does not mean apply 98% throttle on straights.

I test rode an 1198 a few weeks ago, no way i could afford one but i so want one.
maybe this guy, who cant handle it and has no respect for it, should be forced to give me his bike and that'll learn him not to ride like such a plnker.
OK it probably wont treach him anything but i think i desreve a slightly crashed 1198 more than he does anyway.

its this kind of thing that makes me worried about going to a track day. my sv is my only transport and if someone took me out i would not be a happy chap. Im sure there must be some reproach if the crash is like what happen in the superbikes at the weekend where the guy was just going too fast and took out someone infront of him (cant remember the names) But if it was a non-fault thing then I guess you cant compain, just be angry. He does sound like a bell end though.
He's not getting any sympathy on Ducatisti either, although people are impressed by the quality of the photo's :D
