Hi Everyone,
I am on the brink of buying a SV650 and have the option of a K8 model (which is in black (the colour I want)) or a K9. Is there any difference between the K8 and the K9? I really want this bike in black and the garage are offering it (k8) for the same price as the blue K9 model but have thrown in an alarm. I just wanted to check if there are any major differences and if I should hold out for a black K9 one from another garage?
Thanks very much!

No difference as far as I am aware apart from colour schemes. I wouldn't pay K9 prices for a K8 bike and the Alarm is not a value adding feature for me.

Colours is the only difference
When was the twin spark head introduced?

Thanks everyone.
Just spoken to the dealer who says there's no difference between the k8 and k9 model except colours etc.
Apparently the ABS only came with the European model.
If anyone can think of any other differences, would be great to hear them.
Thanks again!

And there was me thinking we were European now!
I had a black K9 but it used to chase the postman as I had to get rid!

You will be doing him a favour to take the K8 - so he should reward you likewise.
Tell him to chuck parts AND labour for the 600 and 4000 mile services in too :)
If you are after a black K8 then shop around for a better price than K9 prices.
A look on Biketrader showed this.

Hello,
Absolutely no difference apart from colour of seat. K9 model has a black seat, K8 has a red coloured one.
You won't go wrong with either model - only difference in value is when the bike was registered. ie: in 2008 or 2009.
** A small number of K9 bikes were also sold in the UK in late 2008 as these were shipped in late summer / early autumn so will have a 2008 registration but the log book will show the correct code of K9.
Hope this helps
Tillstons, Stockton, has two K8's, one black and one blue, un-reg for £3999.
George Petch, in Grimsby, has one K8 (unfaired) grey for £3799.

When i bought my K7 back in march new it was the best price around at the time i could find, i paid £3995, it was new and unregistered but apart from a red seat i couldnt find any difference between that and a k8 so for a saving of £500 i snapped it up.
Personally if i was buying a 2nd hand bike the year and miles etc would be more interesting to me than a later model with just colour differences.
Unless it was major changes like body style, abs, more power etc.
Phil
If you get the blue K9 it has +1000bhp go faster stripes! ;)
But on a more serious note, nothing is different except for cosmetics which have been highlighted above by other posters.

Thanks for your advice everyone, it's really useful. I think I will go for the K8-no difference really to the K9. Could have shopped around a bit but convenience and impatience means I'll probably go with my local garage-can't wait to get it now! Thanks again!
