I have an 08 SV650 Sport. I want to install 2 marine grade 12 volt outlets on the bike to power my GPS, and ipod. Does anyone have advice on locations or methods that work better than others. I am also installing a power distribution plate that only powers these outlets when the ignition is on. Any advice would be appreciated since I do not want to make a mistake with the mounting.

Dead easy....got one from ebay that is all wired and fused. Has a cap to keep out water. Been using for a few weeks for sat nav and phone and works very well. Mine is a single outlet and mounted on handle bar with zip ties and has not budged yet.All you do is follow existing cable running to under seat and attach the new cable to that using whatever.

Good morning all.

With any accessories such as these, or heated grips etc, I always advise wiring them via a fused relay. This way any current used will come directly from the battery, & the plug in this case will only work when the ignition is switched on.
This may be an inconvenience if you wanted to charge your phone whilst parked, as it's not a good idea to have the ignition on without the engine running, but remember if anything has a little red/yellow etc light on it, it will be drawing some curent all the time it's illuminated.

It's ok to wire an item such as a phone charger direct from the battery, but you MUST put an inline fuse in the feed, & if it has a red light on it put a switch somewhere discreet.

Cheers.
