View Full Version : Thorpe Park

OK- it wasn't the AR, but I went to Thorpe Park on Saturday.
My first time on rollercoasters for about 15-20 years. Last one was Spacestation Zero at Thorpe Park (remember that?!)
Went on Saw first- once I was on, I thought "Mmmm- I'm not too sure about this". What a ride! It's really intense. The 100 degree drop is stomach churning! Very, very good- long wait though (over 1 hour). Was shaking a bit when I got off!
Colossus was next- I laughed like a maniac all the way round and for about a minute after getting off- my favourite by far.
Then we went on X:\ No Way Out.
It goes backwards.
In pitch darkness.
Didn't enjoy it at all- I get motion sickness in cars if I try and read a book or send a text- this was the same, as I had no visual frame of reference to the sense of motion. Urrgh. It's quite a short ride, but long enough for me- though some people I'm sure think it's well tame. Never again!
Had a quick break then went on Nemesis: Inferno. I think the effects of X were still with me, as I was getting motion sick again- a shame as it's a great ride that I probably would have enjoyed more if I'd not been on X. Had a bit of trouble walking in a straight line after that!
Rumba Rapids was a nice gentle antidote to the manic coasters- though again I did start tripping out on the rotating platform- I think I'm going soft!
Last one was Stealth though- no loops or corkscrews, so I though S*d it- give it a go (I did er abit after coming off Nemesis- the 205ft peak looked a touch daunting). What a blast- my stomach was pinned to my spine when it launched (0-80 in 3.2 secs- the SV can't manage that!). The 200ft drop was a blast too (now that I had the hang of freefall!)- a great ride, if a little short.
I reckon the average of 30 minutes wait was just long enough to put yourself together after the last ride.
We had lunch, then some of the crowd went on Detonator- I think I'd rather taste a burger king meal just once..!
Well recommended- I'll definitely go there again. Not for 35 squids though- we had 2 for 1 vouchers, which made it easier!
I last went two years ago, and I had the biggest grin from start to finish.

You see- proof that everyone is completely different (and I'm probably getting a bit old!!).
You've gotta try Saw out- it's Ace!

yeah we wanted to but we were there the week it opened (i think) and it was a 5 hour or more queue, whilst queuing for samurai and looking at saw it didn't really look worth queing 5 hours for

The cameras in the back of the seats on SAW are great: nothing's as much fun as seeing how stupid you look when you're scared ****less! Wonder if anyone's dumb enough to buy the DVD though.

I was sitting in the front seats- so I didn't get to see the expression on my face. Fortunately.
I was rather silent for the first part of the ride!

im a bit of a rollercoaster junkie, been all over the UK and into Europe on rides.
stealth is the biz, as are both nemisis rides.
no way out......good, but it IS chunder central, and i didnt like it either
unfortunately all british theme parks have been ruined for me as i've been to disney et al in florida. they knows how to run a park for sure. and they're blessed with the weather for the most part....
not been to thorpe park for about 20 years, sounds good tho, only about an hour from me, might give it a bash one day....

hahahahahahahahahahahahaha i forgot about that
i liked the samurai :D
well done for going on all those rides. I did collosus and nemesis last time, also felt sick after the dark one. couldnt bring myself to do the one that goes high in the air and drops. Did detonator too, almost as bad as the parachute jump I did 2 weeks prior. We go to chessington now as we have the Libby. OHs 6 year old wont go on any rides (they are too fast) but Libby went on pirate boats, flying jumbos and bubble works. going to chessington this afternoon as we have annual passes. can only get in after 3 during august but if you are not paying you dont mind only being there 3 or 4 hours.

We will probably go at some point, it was probably about 5 years ago when I went there last!
I get discount so if anyone wants to join us sometime let me know.
I actually die when I go on these rides. I can cope with the teacup & saucer thing and Peter Pan flying gently over a model of London but that's about it. I think i had a nasty incident when I was substantially smaller and younger than I am now. I'm going to Blackpool in a couple of weeks - the kids are so looking forward to the Pleasure Beach!:smt115 I'll just have one of these cheap 'only here to look and not ride' tickets thus saving a few bob for drinking some of the local foaming ale stuff.

nemesis was good but i sort of ruined it, i spent the whole time in the queue memorising where the camera was so i could do a stupid pose, i got the pose for the pic right but ruined the rest of the ride

Should try and organise an org day out to Thorpe Park sometime. Would anyone be up for this? VT what sort've discount would you be able to get if there was a big enough group of us?

Ive sent you PM Josh,
The cost would be £22 for an adult and £14.25 for a child under 11 years of age.
I get discounts for other things too like Alton Towers, Chessington, London Aquarium, Go Ape and West Midland Safari Park too, so those could be other options. Go Ape was fun, I went to the one in Bracknell which isnt far away from most of you, we took the dogs and a picnic, it was much more fun than I had anticipated!

good idea but bit of a waste of time, you wont be able to all get on the ride at once, not even if you get the fast track thing
not knocking it know i would still be up for it :D
Graciepants

you get the fast track thing :D
thats so expensive
Wideboy
06-08-09, 04:46 PM
yeah its like a extra 50 quid of something stupid
Spiderman
06-08-09, 04:49 PM
there have been times that the queue for the fast track has been longer the the normal queue, so no i wont be wasting money on that.
And i'm sad to say i'm old enough to remember Space Station Zero and even have a pic from it from way back then somewhere in my box of pics.
Its changed a hell of a lot there tho and when i went about 18months ago i was very impressed by it all. Only very small let down was the drying booth things, they need a lot more of those to allow for the joys of the great british summer.
I'll go if there is an org outing. Haven't been there in years!
Although like Keith said...they fail in comparison to themeparks in yankie doodle land!
Wideboy
06-08-09, 04:51 PM
they had drying booths?
tut thats the reason i didnt go on the log flume
Spiderman
06-08-09, 04:56 PM
yeh, just in front of the log flume thing actually. Not very well advertised thb and a bit pricey iirc but the fact you could go and get soaked by the splash from the logs and then go get relatively dry and avoid pnuemonia was a good thing.
I'm sure they dont compare to yank park since yanks like to do everything bigger than anyone else but the really fast accelerating ride i went on (cant remember its name now) accelaerated faster than most bies ive been on and made my eyes bounce about in my head so much i coulnd't focus properly till we got to the top....just before the really scary drop where i did t really want my eyes focusing properly tbh :)
