How many miles..... ?

IBA that is. Iron Butt Association. Lot's talk about knocking out a Saddle Sore 1000, and I personally think that it's an easy ride to do, but I wanted to see if I could do the BBG. The Bun Burner Gold. 1500 miles in 24 hours.......

I left the house Saturday morning at 4:30 with signed documentation for beginning mileage, and got my starting time receipt at just before 5am and hit the road....

My destination was Denver, Colorado. My route was Hwy 24 in Carthage, NC, to 22, then 64 to I-40. I-40 took me to Nashville, TN where I picked up I-24 north to I-57. 57 routes up to 64 west, then you pick up 70 west in Saint Louis..... 70 takes you all the way to Denver.....

By 1pm, I had over 500 miles down. I had the SS 1000 done before 7:30 PM, and was worried about time, darkness, and fatigue for the last 500 miles, so I wicked it up until the last bits of the sun peaked, and then kept it wicked up while I could...

400 miles to go and I knew I was good on time.

350 miles to go and I knew I was running out of steam with fatigue starting to creep in...

300 miles to go and I started seeing shadows at the edge of the road and was seriously debating about throwing in the towel, so I stopped at a rest area, and just chilled out a bit. Walked, talked to myself, and said, **** it. Let's roll.....

I had 275 miles to go, and was running on empty already. It was dark as hell, and shadows were playing games with my head. I was seeing markings on the pavement where deer, and other critters, had been struck on the road, so I was looking at EVERYTHING.....

200 miles to go and I had to take another time out. Walk. Talk. Breathe. Take the gear off a bit and relax...

Let's roll some more.... I must have passed those same two trucks 10 times. Stop, rest a bit, walk around and wake up, then hit the road again..... Pass those guys again....

At 1430 miles, my instrument cluster died....... Well, ****. How am I going to get a witness to sign off on a dead odometer reading? Maybe they will take the GPS accumulated miles....

That last 100 miles took for freaking ever! I was hallucinating at times. I was trying to go to sleep. I was pulling off at rest areas and splashing water on my face, then ride another 25 miles and do it all over again.....

23 hours and 35 minutes saw my last time receipt with 1500.8 miles showing on the GPS:cheers:

50 miles later, I found a field to park in, laid my sleeping mat down, rolled out the sleeping bag, and passed out for 3 hours!

Yes. The SS1000 is child's play. That BBG is devils work! I should have called it quits. I probably cannot even certify the ride due to the dash, but I am gonna try!

Would I do this again? Doubt it. That ride was a flat out bitch.

After I got up, I rode through Aurora, CO, and decided to go to Colorado Springs to the Garden of the Gods before heading to my cousin's house, so total for the two days was 1808 miles! I just wish my dash still worked.... Fack....
