View Full Version : Where is this?
Went for a ride with darylB (he had daughter Fran on the back) today and this is where we ended up. Sorry about poor quality phone camera pix, I did think about taking the camera but it's a bit bulky and would have meant taking my tank bag with when I wanted to go naked so to speak. When darylB reads the thread no doubt he'll post some proper ones. I know that a lot of you have been there. It took about an hour twenty to get there from Shrewsbury. Where is it?

So who was right then? ;)
So who was right then? ;)
You were!!!
It's Careg-Du in the Elan Valley, near Rhayader.
I nearly ran out of fuel, I found a gas station in Rhayader and it took 15.37 litres. The 675 has a 16 litre tank:cool: Then found Daryl & Fran at the visitor centre, which is some way out of Rhayader - I saw a family of red kites - fantastic sight as they soared and swooped.
I have a new phone - can't work it out:rolleyes:
Then went up into the valley - it's just fantastic scenery. Wild. We disturbed the peace and got quite a few accusatorial stares from the red-socked brigade - 'bloody bikers!'
It's a fantastic ride down there. Will go all the way through the valley and over the tops to Aberystwyth next time.

Nice pics & a nice place by the looks.
Daryl makes me laugh in this pic, its as though it's like "do I have to lunge?, Oh go on then" :)

yeah - Elan Valley - was there about 10 days ago ... went from Devil's Bridge on the East side through the valley (which is stunning - just make sure you beep the sheep so they don't wander into your path) ..then went south and ended up in Brecon. Lovely stuff - but raining on and off.
I feel so lucky to live where I do. I used to live in Saltash, in east Cornwall. Then, in 1996 my job moved, I had no choice about it (apart from the dole queue) and I left Cornwall with such a very heavy heart, I loved living there and didn't want to leave.
We are in a large town - well, I spose a town of 60,000 people ain't that large. But I didn't know what I was moving to, and at that time I didn't have a bike licence - or any real interest in bikes, for that matter.
Now, we are within easy striking distance of some of the wildest and remotest places in the United Kingdom, not 10 miles from my house it is simply stunningly beautiful, and the temptation is to ride through at warp speed and not to savour the absolute joy on my doorstep. The sight of those red kites at Rhayader will live with me for a long time. In fact, I stopped and watched them, it was worth every minute.
I am so fortunate - I can get back there within an hour twenty and with a bit of luck I'd see them again.
Sunday, I'll try take some better pics of the Elan Valley - that is if Mr Pants and Miss Claire stop and let me:D and I'll bore you with even more....
