Last night we watched Descent, feardotcom and freddy v jason none of which were scarey nor did they make me jump although kitkat did jump a few times during Descent.
Not really into the slasher/blood and guts everywhere kind of films but more the sort that make you jump.
So what films do you lot reckon fit the bill?

Not a 'jumpy' film, but try Lost Highway...serious messed up and quite freaky.
The original 'The Ring' might be worth a watch too.

Depends on what you want; but
Drag Me To Hell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-REviL75zg
That was quite a good moive, the fight scence in the car made me laugh a lot.
Also The Shining is good, however I watched years ago and fell asleep before the end.
Silent Hill, althought based on a video game is quite scary, but that is CGI based horror.
Also The Ring is good, but I would suggest watch the orginal one, not the American remake.
Also the Exorsit is scary if you like that kind of that.
eh?? Please explain!!!
that shouldn't have been in there - I copied and pasted from another list i have:rolleyes:
the original dracula is quite good
scared me witless when i was 7 ( brother thought it was a good idea while babysitting me!)
Speaking of older movies:
The thing from another world. John Carpenter's The Thing seems to be a remake of it.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044121/
I skived school as a nipper & this was on TV. Scared the be-jeezus out of me.
A couple of oldies;
The Shining with Jack Nicholson. The only film to get the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up.
The Omen. I still can't watch it without a break for a calming whisky.
The Exorcist
Silence of the Lambs
Clockwork Orange
All older movies but imo scarey  and definitely worth watching from behind the Sofa :reaper: ;)

I can most definitely say that it will be KK that bottles it first lol

Have got Silent hill on dvd already, that's the sort of film i'm thinking of, made both KK and her daughter jump lots.

That had tv in those days? ;-)
The Exorcist
Silence of the Lambs
Clockwork Orange

I got the Exorcist out on dvd a couple of years ago and it did absolutely nothing for me, couldn't understand what all the fuss was about.
Silence of the lambs is a good film but not what I would call scarey

Well the tears will start just before Bambis' mum gets shot and will probably continue for a day or so afterwards.
Pub? not a chance!

Oh this has got to be THE CHANGELING.
A 1980 horror flick that is kind of slow at the beginning but my god it made me jump.
Ste.
+1 For The Shining
A weird one, which is quite gruesome is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I went to the cinema when they re-released The Excorcist as i remember seeing it as a very young kid and being very scared. Typical 70s movie that the soundtrack was part of the fear factor but we have moved on so much (desensitized perhaps?) that it was just a pants 70s film trying to be scary.
Clockwork Orange aint scary as much as its a good social dialogue, even for todays standards.
How about The Ametyville(sp?).
Can you tell i stopped watching scary movies in the late 80s? I dont know any new ones
Tara wedding video ;) *Runs and hides behind the sofa*
i blame the person taking the video ;)

Agree with most of this but would add the Rob Zombie remake of Halloween as being a really good update of the first film. As far as jumpy films: see Drag Me To Hell with the sound turned WAY up. It's brilliant!

I just ordered Saw.
I'll let you know what it's like once my hands stop shakkkiinngngg enough to type!
Creep- a very nasty horror movie.
The Thing, as mentioned
I've never been able to sit through the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre- the vibe to that film really gives me the creeps. Also, I'm not a major horror movie lover.
Starting to watch them again tho...

Event Horizon and House on haunted hill are the only ones to ever creep me out a bit... although only if watched home alone late at night... Maybe Creep and Silent Hill a bit too

what ever you do dont watch the remastered Alien on hidef it takes all the atmosphere away and makes it look rather cheesy.

"decent" is a good film so is "last house on the left" i also enjoyed "quarantine" and all the "saw" films
the remake of hill's have eye's is good i thought as is the jap grudge.
not the remake of The Fog. On Fiver now & about as good as that Pelham 1-2-3 remake.....
Home Alone & Home Alone II
That poor child, after the first film I very susprised the child care people didn't take him away from such parents.

ditto Candyman (this was a big one when i was 12 or 13 but it's just very creepy - the atmosphere of the film and the music - watch it and you'll see).
ditto - The Ring probably more creepy than sthe above - just makes u feel bloody uneasy. But watch the Japanese version - the remake is inferior.
saw 1 is brilliantly inventive i think, part 2 is also worth watching ...the third and fourth are just rehashes though - like most sequels.
for good ol fashioned 'jump' thrills and expert film-making it's always worth sticking on Halloween.
And while i;m at it, i remember seeing Scream 1 at the cinema - how good was that at the time - kicked the genre right up the ****.... so much fun and shocking first scene! (but of course they had to cain and parody the formula to death)

The first Childsplay is pretty scary. Before it got ridiculous and up to Chucky's Brides' Pet Cat.
(well it was when I was young and it came out - might be carp now)

Do a search for 'Tartan video', or even better still 'Tartan Asia Extreme', things like
the Grudge
Ring (there are three films the original, a sequal and a prequal and then one 'spin off' Ring: The twist or something)
Dark Water
Tale of Two Sisters
