Aaaaaaaaahh!

Never had more than 3 numbers.

If i won the biggie I'd only spend it and enjoy myself, maybe even give up working o/t.

you were still about 1/2000 odds against the jackpot.

if i won the biggie, I would buy a chemistry lab at my university, kit it out really nicely, make it a good place for students and academic staff to do research.

And I'd keep a hefty bundle aside for motorcycles and a house :smt023

Interestingly those winning numbers add up to 150, which is the most probable sum of 6 numbers randomly selected between 1-49 (average is 25 if you get my drift).

I once plotted the sum of a few hundred winning lottery numbers from a table I found somewhere on t'interweb (copy/paste into excel, do the sums from there) and sure enough they fit a nice normal distribution curve with the peak at 150, so if you want to better your chance of winning the jackpot, stick to sums around the 150 mark give or take a few.

I'm sure a pro statistician will give the true rundown on this. Bad luck there anyway, so close...............#-o

My old maths teacher claimed he had a logical way of winning the lottery, probably something similar to embee's thoughts. However when challenged to try it out he always used to make up some excuse like didn't care about cash etc.

Mate of mine got 5 numbers, won just £800. Inconsoleable he was, pretty much why I never ever do the damn thing.

It's not called "the stupid tax" for nothing!

From a simplistic perspective, the average value of a lottery ticket (prizes/tickets) is 50p. And you want me to pay a quid for it???? In practice, for a small sample you might disregard the jackpot because the odds are so small, leaving the vast majority of players with less than 50% payout.

A fruit machine with a 50% payout would violate the 2005 Gambling Act which requires a minimum of 70% payout. Why would I buy a ticket with worse odds than putting my money in a fruit machine?? Hell, I reckon even the bookies offer fairer odds than the lottery!

So, I don't see much chance of me winning the lottery... I won't be buying a ticket any time soon.
