Well after the trackday at Snetterton on Monday the Blackbirds fate was sealed - I only managed one session on it and didn't enjoy it at all as I was dragging the pegs on every bend and struggling with its immense bulk when changing direction.

Was idley browsing Biketrader this week and a couple of SV1000s caught my eye - one was quite local to me at Weatherleys motorcycles so today I went to take a look. Got there and some bloke was already test riding and decided to buy it! D*mn and blast! What he did have though was an identical 2003 SV1000S with 17k on the clock that had suffered a low speed drop - all the simple stuff had been repaired but it had left a scuffed fairing and a dented tank. £1500 was the sticker price - took it for a ride and fell in love immediately - its everything I want in a bike - those 650 riders who think a 1000 is too heavy really need to ride a Bird to see what heavy is like! The SV1000 is a featherweight in comparison! Plenty of power but not license destroying like the Bird and sublime handling - loving the fact you can actually adjust the suspension too - not had a bike with fully adjustable suspension before.

When I returned I found it had 1 years MOT and 6 months tax so the deal just had to be done - I left with a nice wedge of cash and the SV1000 - yes its been lightly crashed but for £1500 I dont care to be honest - my wife is pregnant with our first child so the extra money will be handy and I have ear marked £250 to get a set of cans for the bike as its criminal to keep it silenced I think!

Comments always welcome :)

Is it just me or is that an incredible bargain that you have got there, even with the scuff and dent.

I'm sure you'll have much more fun on track than with the Blackbird.

Enjoy. :D

Thanks everyone - I am well pleased - it was a 45 mile ride home and I loved every single inch of it! :D :D :D Just got to find some cans now - the poor thing is desperate to be heard!

Pregnant!

I missed that first read through.

Congratulations to you both! :D
Thanks Lissa - not totally unplanned but still a bit of a surprise! We are over the moon though as there is history of not much luck in that area in my side of the family :)

Nice one, the extra funds will no doubt come in useful and the bike is perfectly rideable... best of both worlds

Nice one Skip....on both fronts. I wouldn't worry about the cans, once you fit the sidecar you'll only notice the one anyway!

I think you will find he saw the silver awesomeness of my bike and was instantly converted. I still need to get to akrapovics back on though. But all in good time. 17k on the clock is quite good, I think I might be approaching 55k on mine (53 plate), I thought it was 57k but I sadly very wrong when I checked it today. Apart from a few niggles recently it hasn't missed a beat. Say good bye to your money, fuel consumption is a bit high, I don't know what the black bird did to the tank but thous are thirsty.

Just got back from a 110 mile ride this morning - I can honestly say I absolutely LOVE it! :D :D :D :D Just the right amount of power for the road - great handling and even with the stock cans it sounds pretty good - overall I have 100% no regrets 8)

Have now put over 200 miles on the SV - what a bike - I have a massive grin on my face just thinking about riding it - hopefully will get some cans this weekend to make my grin even wider! I cant believe its an SV that has made me fall in love with biking all over again - thats not fair actually - of course it was an SV that did that (how cheesy! lol)
