View Full Version : Replacing grips without a compressor

Anyone got any advice for this or should I save myself a lot of hassle and just get someone with a compressor to do it?

The left bar isn't a problem, but the throttle tube has these little tabs sticking out (and into the grip) which looks like it would make sliding it on a PITA!

At the moment they are staring at me in the garage, but I don't even want to start without some tips!

Cheers
Luke

Installation can be done with warm, soapy water, once the soapy water dries up the grips stay in place.

Yep - In the end, I cut off the 4 tabs and went postal with a can of hair spray. Slipped right on!

+1 for hairspray.
Just cut the old ones off and lube up with the hairspray

I had a grip come off in my hand on a rainy day so I replaced both, the tips on here were for hairspray. I tried it and yep it works. Silvikrin or something I used and they are still on there a year later and dont move one bit. Spray em up slide them on, rotate to desired position and leave em 24 hours to set.

Thought I'd add my 2p. If you put on what you can of the grip and then hit the open end flat and hard with the palm of your hand trapping air in the grip it creates a sort of air cushion and pops right on. I haven't found the need to use anything sticky to hold them as ong as all of the lubricant used to release them has been properly cleaned off as well as the throttle tube and bars.
