I'm planning a trip up 'norf' in the last week of August and will be based in Darlington with my big sis, but i will have 2-3 days to ride out on my own and was planning to spend a day exploring the Dales and a day in the Moors cos i've never been to either.

I've had a look at the Carlsberg route and will definitely be incorporating some of those roads (possibly on the way up and return journey cos otherwise it's A1 door to door, yuk!) but was wondering if you could advise some of your fave roads and places of interest to stop, wander round and eat sticky buns!

I'll be looking to ride about 200 miles a day giving myself plenty of time to stop (and look at the map to try and work out where on earth i am:)) but this is a huge adventure for me cos i've never really done anything by myself before, so any suggestions you can make as to where to ride/ see would be greatly appreciated, thankyou xx

Carlsberg route is a great start. Some great roads in there!

If you can run out to Hawes from Ripon. Thats a good ride no matter which way you go :) Just go steady as there are a lot of blind bends and plenty of things to catch someone out... Sheep included. :(

Stokesley to Helmsley - usually plenty of bikes in Helmsley but watch out for mobile cams.

Great Ayton to Whitby, via Castleton/Danby Eskdale, and back along the moors road.

Anything north of the A66, going up Teesdale from Darlo, is very quiet.

Enjoy.

Yorkshires best road?

Easy, the one out.

Yes, but only because it also brings people in... :p
