Shut up for good I'm afraid, no money in it.
A number of the instructors migrated to Route 66 in Motherwell, the rest unknown.

My friend came home from Breast Way Round to find she was unemployed.
Shocking :(

Hi all, I hope you don't mind me joining and posting here to ask about Harleys. I can't find any info about them shutting anywhere else.
In May I contacted Harleys about buying my bike from me. They offered to sell it on my behalf and take a comision on the sale. I agreed and Jim Harley came and picked it up.
About a month later, Jim phoned me to say that they were moving to new premises in East kilbride and did I want him to take my bike with them or sell it for cash to him. I agreed a price with him and he said he was going on holiday and moving so could I wait three weeks for the money.
I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt but I havn't heard anything from them since. All the phone numbers I have just ring out and as mentioned, the place is all boarded up.
I havn't a clue what to do next, I was a bit daft looking back on things but I assumed, as a reputable place, I wouldn't have any problems giving them my bike.
Sorry this is a bit long but any advice or other contact details I could try would be very appreciated.
Thanks,
Stuart

I'd stop doing that and start phoning the police.
If you're lucky he didn't declare insolvency, just boarded up and walked away, in which case he owes you a bike or the cash.
If he went properly bankrupt you'll get nothing. Sorry. :(

Thanks for replying so quickly and the advice :)
I've been thinking about going to the police and that's what I'll do first thing tomorrow. I guess I was just thinking it was an honest mix up or he forgot with the hassle of moving premises or something but times getting on and not having a working number or anything to contact them on is worrying me now.
Strange how he told me they were moving to East Kilbride, that was at least a month ago.
I'll see what the police have to say tomorrow.
Thanks again,
Stuart.
jim harley used to have a pub but I cant remember where it was, some wee village in north glasgow area.
I passed with them in 2001 too.
I nearly started training with them to be a bike instructor 2 years ago, but was advised not to go anywhere near them as they were in trouble

Stuart,
As a former customer of Harley's I was at the shop on it's last day just before they closed the doors for the last time. As far as I am aware mate, all of the bikes and tools from the workshop were being transferred to the new premises. However, the guy that ran the salesroom is opening another place elsewhere, seperate from Jim Harley. Do you remember who it was you spoke to regarding the sale? I know you said it was Jim who picked the bike up but who agreed the final price and so forth?
I don't keep in contact with Jim, didn't know him that well other than through the garage & rideouts so I don't have any contact numbers but I could probably get one so you could find out what the script is mate.
Jillyburd, take it your pal from BWR is Nicki? With the mega short 650S? :)

The guy I spoke to first was Tony McStravick who arranged the bike to be picked up and taken to their shop. Once they had the bike it was Jim who phoned me about them moving and I agreed a price with him.
I'm still hoping this is just some daft mix up and I can get things sorted out without involving the police for their sake.
Thanks for that info about them moving Martyn, makes me a little more hopeful I can get this sorted.

i got told that in Jan this year - treat the staff not too well.

I passed with them about 4 years or so ago, Jim Harley had the pub in Torrance, can't remember the name of the pub but I could take someone there if you know what I mean.

Aye I know Nicki. Haven't spoken to her since before Harley's shut but she's a brilliant laugh. My youngest brother worked with her in the parts department of Harley's before they were all made redundant.
Did she join the other few at Route 66?

Just to let you all know I went to the police this morning and they said to go see a lawyer as it's a civil matter. Not what I wanted to hear :-(.
Time for a run to Torrance for a quiet drink with some friends methinks.;)

go see a lawyer
Before you start poring money into the coffers of J Cheever Loophole, a trip to the Citizens Advice Bureau might help. At the very least you need to know if he declared insolvency (goodbye bike and money) or just ceased trading (hello bike and/or money).
But Torrance first by all means.
Who fancies a ride-out to this Torrence place? ;)
well torrance only has 3 pubs, cant remember the names of them. but there's the first one on the left (coming from kirky end!) then theres the second one on the right (next to the bakers!) hand side, then the third is on the right next to the spar.
now if its the second one on the right hand side next to the bakers you could be on to bad time. this pub has been closed down/opened up/ closed down/ opened under new management etc..... for the last year or so! sorry if this isnt what you wanted to hear!
right it's a very small world and google is the best tool in the world!!! I will be back shortly hopefully with some more info, hopefully I may even have a way of contacting him!!

Thanks for that Malks, been doing a bit of digging myself and it looks like Jim was the previous owner of the Swan Inn in Lennoxtown.
sorry mate no luck here, jim harley used to run the Torrance pub with a guy called Robert corrigan, he used to run my local. I thought he still did, but aparently corrigan was the last owner of this place! sorry if I got ur hopes up

Maybe someone at Route 66 has a contact number for him?

PM'd you Stuart.
I can confirm that none of the pubs in Torrance are now run Jim Harley
The wheatsheaf is more likely the one to be - it beenclosed and ropened about 4 times in 4 years. But i do have a colleague who lives in torrance - she loves to dig for gold if you know what i mean
The torrance inn
The wheatsheaf
THe Village inn
are the three still trading and we have contacts for 2 if you need them

Jim used to own TH evillage Inn, passed there on Saturday just to see if there were any action but alas none as yet.
He might not own it still?
don't mind him ever having anything to do with the wheatsheaf (well my brother doesn't and he drinks there far too often!)
Hi Guys & Gals,
I was one of the Instructors at Harleys when it closed down, I dont have an axe to grind with either party. I have sent a PM to the fellow who has misplaced his bike asking for information on the said machine, I do know the whereabouts of Mr J.Harley. I will find out what is or has happened to his bike when he gives me the info, I am not involved in any way with Mr J.Harley but I am willing to find out about the bike for the member.
This should be resolved today hopefully as I have spoken to both parties. As Stuart said it was a mixup with documents and contact details being misplaced and people being on extended holidays, now both parties I am told are sorting it out.

And what had happened may we ask?
As I updated in my answer between people being on holiday any stuff getting moved from one site to another things got forgot about and then no one picked up the slack and sorted it out. No excuses especially as its someone elses money but these things happen, I believe that Mr J Harley & Stuart have spoken today so both parties are happy and will sort it asap.
Im just glad I noticed the thread and was in a position to help before it got out of hand.
