Pretty pathetic really, considering I'm sat on two direct fibre links to Manchester. Maybe I should look at the routing tables...
But that'd take effort, and I can apparently download a full movie in 10mins, so excuse me won't you...

Anything between 3 and 6 Meg is about average for the typical home connection unless you have cable like Orose.

with virgin, don't know what a ping is
ping is a computer network tool used to test whether a particular host is reachable across an IP network; it is also used to self test the network interface card of the computer, or as a latency test. It works by sending ICMP “echo request” packets to the target host and listening for ICMP “echo response” replies. Ping measures the round-trip time and records any packet loss, and prints when finished a statistical summary of the echo response packets received, the minimum, mean, max and in some versions the standard deviation of the round trip time.

Basic BT tariff gives up to 8Mb/s download? There's something fishy about this one? Especially with such a long ping time, do you use some kind of compression proxy to accelerate download?

we have two work lines on load balance
this mornig both were pulling 6 .8 meg download with sub 40ms ping with .3 and .6 upload.
one is Zen one is Bt we are on a new industrial estate and pay £150 per month for both lines...
it sucks...
at home I pay £14.99 on a line I was garanteed .5meg and it pulls a whopping 7.8 meg with an upload of .7
BT need to sort the lines to this estate out and upgrade the exchange from the granite system run by slugs...
this is one of the lines

LOL ok so no jiggery pokery by you to get faster download. Guess you just lucky, although some exchanges have already been switched to the 21CN model (for data not PSTN) and you might be on one of those. That is a very good speed for BT supplied ADSL, hence my query.

Looking at the Telewest/Blueyonder/Virgin results I reckon they've cached the to fake the results.
These speeds are intresting! Ive been sat in the exchange before with our router almost hardwired into the frame and yet we still only recieved about 6.8meg considering we should have had 8meg seeing how far away we was :P

D/L is better than I expected for this time o'the night. Ping is a touch high. U/L- hmmm. That's not much at all. Even with transmisison running, I don't seem to be seeding anything...
I've got an 8meg connection with BT- last time I tested, I think it was about 4meg ish.
Meant to have up to 20mb/s...currently getting 2mb/s download. Isn't usually this low though as I did this test the other month and it was up to 9mb/s...something is amiss!

I dont' need to test, after weeks of arguing on the phone with my broadband company, manxtelecom... they FINALLY admitted our net is running at an appualing speed to what it should be... and ARE going to fix it... i think we made the original call 6 weeksish ago and finally got a call over the weekend admitting it's there problem..... hallelujah!
