The RGV's itching to be abused.

Any takers?

Usual comments about "it won't be fast, I'll only be riding a 250" apply ;)

I don't really care where I go so long as the roads are interesting and I'm not riding on my own again.

The only gotcha is that if I'm out at all it'll be on the RGV so there's a distance limit (150 miles or so, round trip from SW18 ) and it's gots more twists than the book Agatha Christie wrote the first time she dropped acid.

I shall have to remember that one. My social secretary (ie the Mrs) has informed me I am going to Whitstable with her for a boring weekend of doing nothing. F'in great. I'd just got new tyres on the 7R too...

I'm going to a wedding on Saturday so it depends on what state i'm in on Sunday morning. :smt030 :puker:

The FOT may be busier than normal as its featured as one of "britains best roads" in this months Ride mag. The 16 mile stretch between Aylesbury and Buckingham has 13 places where you can crash, according to the police.

Oh. Bum. No doubt it'll have a police presence this month too.

There are yellow signs up all along the A413 and B4011 saying how many bikers have crashed or died there in the last however many months or years. They're a great hint that you're about to hit a fun bit of road.

Work ... :(

The plus side of working shifts: you can go for a ride on days other people can't

The minus side of working shifts: you can't go for a ride on days when anyone else can

ok dont want to tempt fate after I was going last time and crashed but #1 if I wake up in time #2 the weather is ok #3 I pass a breathalyzer test ill be at the shire horse at 10 the sv needs to have the tyres scrubbed in

ogden
15-08-09, 09:08 PM
Right, I'm sticking with plan A.

Usual FOT route, departing Shire Horse at 10am. If you get there and I'm not there you're either early, so wait, or late, so I've already gone, or you're about on time but I'm still trying to get the sodding bike started.

There's a petrol station a mile or two up the A4 towards Reading, make sure you have either a full tank when you arrive or at least enough to do the 35 miles or so to Aylesbury because I'll have to fill the RGV up again there anyway. There's no way it'll manage the whole 97 mile route on one tank.

I'm keen to come for the ride if I'm welcome and the weather is nice and I actually wake up at a decent hour...

All are welcome.

Jesus you're a drama queen.

The level of traffic on the A413 on a weekday is no indication of what it'll be at the weekend. Hence the FFS.

I'll try but If i'm late and miss the start,

Sadly I got up too late to make it on time so I did it on my lonesome at around 10ish. Was a lovely ride! Stopped at Foxys on the way back, spotted Furry Ginger Ones black SV outside MPS as well as a whole load of other SVs + TL1000s.
All that remains is to clean the bike :(

ogden
16-08-09, 02:21 PM
Had a good run regardless.

Shame about the bit where I was rear-ended by a Fiesta in Slough on the way home though.

Damn. Any damage?

The bike's alright - broken brake lever and the seat unit looks slightly wonky, but nothing fatal (and nothing outrageous for an old bike)

The front of her car looks like she's been playing chicken with a concrete bollard.

My left shoulder made a good escape effort from its socket but didn't quite manage it. Fine now, might hurt a bit tomorrow.

Sorry to hear Patrick.
hope it's a nice insurance job for you ;)

ogden
16-08-09, 10:52 PM
There's no such thing as a nice insurance job and I loathe ambulance-chasing.

I'll give the bike a proper inspection when I get a chance but I'm not planning to go the insurance route unless it's absolutely necessary.

My bike is 13 years old, has been out of production for over a decade and is worth peanuts. If I claimed for it, it'd almost certainly be written off which would be a complete waste of a modern classic.

The car is a crappy Fiesta and the driver's dad runs a bodyshop so I suspect he might want to do things on the cheap. Unless he/she starts to wriggle or my shoulder starts playing up in a job-affecting manner, I'll happily take a cash deal for the bits needed to get the RGV back looking like a 13 year old bike should.

Besides, any damage to the bike gives me a little more motivation to start the project to turn an old bike into something like this:

I read on another (lesser) forum about a fella who did this with his gf/wife on his R1/R6/something in the garage. The bike fell off the sidestand anddone about £800 worth of damage! He he.

It be the weekend warriors that will make the FOT busy. I did it last Friday and there wasn't many bikes but there was loads of cars so maybe it was in a car mag too?!

Blimey.... he must have been going some to make 800 quids worth of damage!!!

By "weekend warriors" you mean "people who have jobs", right?

Minor scratch to the exhaust and/or a fairing panel, most likely.

No, I mean by people who only use their bikes at the weekends for fun, ie. not commuters. The FOT is a busy main road so there are always bikers on it but to know if the FOT is busier cos of the article in the mag then you'd have to wait till the weekend. You know what I mean.

I was messing about you know.

Either of you doing it on Sunday with Mr Rictus?

ogden
19-08-09, 10:44 AM
Maybe. Small maybe.

The RGV's in bits as I straighten what got bent last weekend and the GSXR's going to be used for an Alpine tour starting the weekend after so I'm loathe to go hooning on it lest the worst should happen and leave me without wheels for the trip.

Or, to put it another way, "depends on the weather."

walkaboutandy
19-08-09, 12:52 PM
Nope, there is going to be loads of noisey bikers in Brackley this weekend so I'm going up to the Yorkshire dales for some peace and quiet! ;)
