bottom right corner click the extend bit then double click the speaker and adjust form there that's for xp though can't think how to do it on vista.

Left click the speaker icon (I'm assuming Windows of some variety), then you'll be presented with a slider & a tick box.

Un-tick the tick box (labelled "mute").

Mine's a cold one. :) ;)

Start -> Control Panel -> Sound settings

Should do the trick

Or the old IT support suggestion

"Have you tried switching it off and on again"

Right click the speaker icon down by the clock if you use XP and it should open to a bigger thing with lots of volume controls on. Make sure none of them has the mute ticked.

Or alternatively, PEBKAC - suggest you attend GP surgery for ears checking.

Sorry Dave.

Go onto internet explorer, go to tools, then internet options then the advanced tab, and scroll down to the multimedia section. there should be a "play sounds in webpages" icon ticked?

Press the Windows key + Run - In the box type sndvol - press enter, should have volume control box open

If sndvol doesn't work try sndvol32

With Vista, you can mute individual applications - it sounds like this is the case. To un-mute it, you need access to the mixer application (sndvol32).

If you don't have access to that application, see the MS Hot fix I linked earlier. I also believe SP1 fixes this (as the hotfix is included), but I've no personal experience of that.

Eh? No sound control panel or nothing to untick?

Afraid I don't really have any idea about FF or Vista but if muted sound on web, try this ...

Go to a youtube video that has noise (this one does (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri6CuVb7_Ek) ;)) Once it starts to play click on the sound/volume icon

Is it a laptop Dave ? , some of them have specific Mute keys on them or maybe Firefox has a mute option in that doesn`t affect any other Vista Application ?
