Ok, I've done a route from Grafham Water to Hunstanton. Probably one we've done before, but I remember Sean said the Ramsey Forty Foot was a good road, so I've included it.
I can do pretty much any sunday apart from the Peaks weekend on the 4th 5th & 6th, and I can't do this sunday The route is here:http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en&doflg=ptm&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=104955232921369824490.000460ed8d94b8e688b5e&ll=52.678047,0.469666&spn=0.405481,1.229095&z=10
So its over to you peeps
I don't see a route mike?

Hah, nor me! Im free Sat 29/8, Sun 30/8, Sat 5/9, Sun 6/9, Sat 19/9 and Sun 20/9 cos the kids are with their dad those weekends but dont worry if the majority want another day, i'll tag along some other time (and cry myself to sleep every night :-()!

OK updated the map (god you lot are quick!) I can do the 22/8, 23/8, 29/9, 20/9, probably anything after that. Don't know why it doesn't show the Downham Market to King Lynn bit though!, but you get the idea

To make things clear I've made a poll for everyone to select what days they are free. I've included the 5th and 6th of September just to make things fair and equal. If by some chance that does become the winner then we could have a problem as a few of us including Mike will be in the peaks. It's a multiple choice poll and it's also a public one, so go vote people. :D

I have now voted - it appears we are all over the place date-wise - but lets give everyone a chance to vote :)
19th and 20th of September is the BMF show at peterborough i'm hoping to get through there that weekend, apart from that i'm free any weekend apart from the bank holiday.

Voted for the weekends I'm not working, my availability will be subject to what my wife is working, as we work opposite weekends.
Otherwise If I don't make the start of the ride, I may meet you in Hunstanton, as it's a good ride from sunny Felixstowe
I haven't voted as I don't know what we're doing on weekends yet, butif I'm free I'll tag along at the back ;)
So Mike - how long are we leaving this before you confirm a date?
kellyjo

I joined up the Downham Market to Kings Lynn bit on the map now too
I have just over two weeks to sort myself out for this - thought my bike was a little noisier than usual and noticed when I was pushing it into the garage that there was a clicking noise coming from the front sprocket area. Whipped the cover off the front sprocket is more hooked than a hooked thing from Hooksville. :( Have ordered a -1t sprocket (why not I thought!) but need to find some Herculean man to help me get the nut undone - yes I am feeble :(

Ive only done 2 group rides - the AR was my first, although there were bikes everywhere and it was so well organisd it made it a fab introduction to group rideouts.
And then last week i did a much smaller one with only seven bikes which was also good but felt a bit like an oap's trip out cos the leader was my ex-instructor and he's so protective of his license that when we reached roads where it would have been good to 'stretch our legs' we sat at 60 all the way, he'd also told us no overtaking! Now, im no threat to Valentino Rossi but i do have my moments and it would've been nice to have the odd short blast (you know what i mean, 64-65mph :-)), so it was a bit frustrating. Group riding is loads of fun though :p
the nearest i've come is a track day at snetterton but its not quite the same!!!!

OK, getting closer to the rideout, so thought I'd post the helpful/serious stuff. Listed below are some guidelines for the ride, just to help and make everyone feel comfortable with it.
We'll use the usual 2nd man drop off (numbers permitting) which is detailed HERE (http://www.peakriders.co.uk/images/pdf%27s/secondmandrop.pdf)
The helpful/serious bit
- Introduce yourself to the ride organiser and swap mobile numbers with him and at least 1 other participant
- Arrive with a full tank of gas or as near as is practically possible.
- Tyre pressures checked and in good condition.
- Breakdown cover. Check if your bike is covered in the event of an accident or breakdown. Full recovery is best. And make sure you have contact numbers for them.
- ICE (In case of emergency numbers) These should be in your phone under that heading. Should someone need to be contacted on your behalf.
- Map. If you haven't got proper ones then rip out the page(s) of an old map book, or get a photocopy, or print one off the internet. It is NOT the responsibility of the organiser to get you home.
- If you're using a dark visor, bring your clear one as well.
- DO bring waterproofs. Just because it's sunny doesn't mean it's gonna stay that way.
- DO Keep an eye on your mirrors.
- DO Ride responsibly.
- DO Stagger your position on the road so as to maximise forward observation and braking distances. This also makes you visible in the mirrors of the bike in front.
- DO ENJOY YOURSELF
- DON'T Do anything you're not comfortable with. It's not a race .
- DON'T Follow too close to the bike in front.
- DON'T fixate on the bike in front.
- DON'T Assume the rider in front knows what he's doing.
- DON'T Stop if one of the group get pulled over.
- DON'T Worry about keeping up and what the others might think.
- DON'T CRASH!
As of yet there's no TEC, but anyone willing to do it would be great. (I got hi viz's so no problem there).
Any comments can be posted on this thread
Don't worry it's not stuffy and up ourselves, we do have fun on the rides really :)
The majority of the roads we're going on are quiet, so the bikes may get opened up a bit, maybe up to 62MPH ;)

Mike, you forgot to add " dont stop in front of a bike that pulling away" ....

Never heard of the 2nd man drop of before, read the link but i hope someone will explain it on the day, i'm sure i'll understand what to do once i see it in action

Its dead easy - basically if the main leader is in front of you he will point to a place at a junction or roundabout and you stop there and tell everyone else which way he went and wait for the designated "Tail End Charlie" (the last person) - once you see them you can go on your way.
Simple and it works!

OMG, you mean i actually have to take some responsibility for making sure we end up in the right place - hah, you're happy to end up lost in the middle of the fens then! :-)
Seems simple put that way!! after reading the link i was wondering how you know when or where to stop but now it makes sense, cheers

If all else fails we'll follow signs to Hunstanton :D

I have a working bike again now so I will be there too :)
Looking forward to putting some proper miles on it - although my speedo is now pure fiction after fitting the 16t front sprocket! :smt120

I may bring a sticker or two so I can use you as a speedo guide and get a rough idea - not going to shell out £80 for a speedohealer just yet.

If you dont ride at the front of the group, you wont be a marker.
Its usually the faster people that do the marking.

Good point well made there Speedplay - if you arent comfortable with the idea of marking then just always make sure there is someone between you and the leader!

Pretty much - at least I know that the speedo is over-reading - but I just tend to follow traffic through 30s and 40s

Getting close now - brought the noisy beast into work this morning, I just love riding it :smt055 - really looking forward to putting some decent miles on it on Sunday 8) Had my mate run (not literally!) along side me to check the speedo - 55kph is 30mph and 70kph is 40mph (ish) so at least I have a rough idea through towns and villages!
Are your mates coming Rob?
