I reckon that an AK-47 would really help with filtering, especially in London. Cage won't get out of your way? Bang, bang! Driver on mobile phone and weaving all over the road? Bang, bang, bang!

A mate of mine just said "That`s not an AK47 , it`s a Kalshnikov"
I just looked at him and said "Google Kalashnikov and select images"
His reply "Well bugger me , Kalashnikov make a copy of the AK"
My reply , "They MAKE the AK you IGNORAMUS"

I forget what the A in AK stands for but the K is for Kalashnikov. Its the designers name isn't it? And the 47 dentes the model number he got to before he was happy with it if i'm not wrong.
your mate must be a laugh and a half...even when he's not trying. Or very, very dim

You don`t know the half of it , I could write a book about him and you would say that 90% of it was Bull Ploppy . I gave the best man speech at his wedding and talked about him for 30 minutes and people had tears streaming down their faces ........ he came out of that a winner despite my best attempts to ruin him :smt017:cool:

Ak 47 just means automatic rifle made by (mikhail) Kalshnikov in 1947 :)
Im pretty sure he was awarded some sort of 'hero of russia' type thing for designing it :)

Its great havng friends who make you laugh just by being themselves. I knew an irish fella like that once. He'd get a takeaway pizza and then put it in a normal carrier bag and take it home. And then always wonder why he had bunched up base and lots of toppings all on one side of the box, lol.

ummmmmmm , gonna admit something now , when I had my Supermoto I used to order a pizza , get to the place , roll it up like a ciggy , drop it in a bag and slot it down the front of my jacket and hoon it hone asap before the grease got to the bottom of the bag . I would be home 3 minutes later and unroll my Pizza and munch away happily ............. helps to buy a stuffed crust as well and not have too crispy a base to it ;)

Ah yeh, i knew it was somethng along those lines. Thanks for that.
Its also the most widely copied small arm under licence and has the most variations based on the central design too i believe as well as apparently being the easiest to strip down and reassemble etc.

They have been found abandoned in the jungles of Vietnam in a terrible state , pock-marked with corrosion , weevils living in the stock , barrels rusted to buggery inside . Stripped and oiled they apparently work due to their "Tolerances" being a bit vague when machined . They are the CX500 of the gun world IMHO .

See now thats fair enough to me if thats the best choice for you mode of transport. I'd probably do the same tbh. I'm forever telling the guys at the local KFC not to put the chicken in boxes so i can stuff it doen the front on my jacket more easily, lol.
George on the other hand, used to walk home from the takeaway that was less than a 5 min walk

Correct.
What many people don't know is that Israel changed the AK 47 by bring the first sight back to the butt of the gun and changing the stock, which increased the accuracy of it ten fold, they called it the Galil. They also made a 5.56m instead of the 7.62m

Avtomat.
There is some controversy over how much the AK was "influenced" by the German StG44, but the StG used a tilting bolt quite similar to a gas-op shotgun rather than the rotating bolt of the AK.
Correct.

I think a weapon chambered for 5.56m might be a bit of a handful :-P
Useless trivia; the isreali galil series is chambered for the .223 win mag cartridge (5.56 NATO), whereas the Russians use 5.45mm.

Nato went with america when they choose to use the 5.56 on the M16 in the late sixties and russia especialy at the time when bullet development was at its peak would never have anything the same as america.
Also nato new that the 7.62 round was causing alot of un needed damage to the surrounding area.

More fussed about 7.62 being too heavy and uncontrollable in fully automatic. Have you ever fired an M14?

I've never fired a 7.62, but I heard a couple of stories about the FN being a bit too effective in Belfast.
One family were reportedly in a flat several hundred yards from a foot patrol that came under fire. A couple of 7.62 rounds entered through one kitchen wall and exited through the other.
In other cases snipers hiding behind walls were shot - through the wall. Even if the rounds didn't penetrate they spalled off enough brick to force the scrote out of cover.

I have fired 2 different ak copies in Texas, one was bought legally for $200 dollars from a gun show.
Dead easy to use except the legal versions over there cant run on full auto due to their laws on automatic weapons, but many adapt them back to auto i believe.
For a gun which looks like crap, it very accurate.
Even my mrs had a go :D
We shot the crap out of an old turntable deck, twas a good day.
Filmed some with my sony 8mm camera, must dig that out, aint watched that for years.
On a different note, on my honeymoon in florida in 99' i took the mrs to a firing range and we hired a 9mm berretta and 100 rounds, there's romance for you.
Anyway enough rambling, sorry for assisting in derail.

The nuttiest weapon i ever had the pleasure to be let loose on was a Franch Spas 12. The worlds only semi auto shotgun, keep pulling thr trigger as fats as you dare and hang on for dear life until all 12 rounds are done. Reload and enjoy till you run out of rounds.
Correct.

The Finnish Valmet was more the basis for the Galil.

Galil comes in .223 Remington (5.56mmx45mm) The Russian 5.45mm is for the AK 74.

Us Brits wanted a smaller round in the fifties, .280 British. Read this EM2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EM-2_rifle)
I don't think bullet development peaked then, probably more at the point when H&K announced their caseless 4.7mm.
Im pretty sure them SLR's had 7.62 all the way into the 80's..
Up until 1987 AFAIK.
Following the Americans has always been a mistake, in cartridge adoption and foreign policy.

Hardly the world's only semi auto. The SPAS 12 was kinda of unique being that it could either be semi auto or pump action, but it was heavy and complicated. If it was 12 rounds it would have had a long barrel length to accomodate the tubular magazine under the barrel.
Since then, Benelli have a M3 super 90 which is also pump or semi auto, lighter and Benelli have a better semi auto system than Franchi, who made the SPAS 12.
I prefer the semi auto only M2 Benelli (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2zR5OQkYWw).

That is why we then ditched the SLR for the SA80 which was made with the same magzine housing and firing as the american M16, so if you ever round out of ammo you could ask a american coz he will have loads left lol:smt070

OMG............Anorak alert........Anorak alert!!!! :geek:
The STANAG magazine adoption is NATO wide, it's just the Americans always get their way. They did, for once, have a point M16 style mags are easier to get locked in under stress compared to european rock and click style magazines, like the L1A1(FN), G3, AK style rifles.

On the same trip to texas, i was on the land of a prison guard who worked in Huntsville, prison capital,.
i fired a few rounds of his police issue shotgun, i think that might of been semi auto, cant remember what it was.
I fired some single shot shells, with huge hollowed out points, they were deadly and huge.
I think they would have took an elephant down no probs.
The same guy had a big arsenal of weapons, mac 10, which i fired 10 rounds on full auto, big barrell .44 magnum, little derringer handbag type guns with two barrells on top of each other, single shot in each, i think .22 calibre. Unbelievablely powerful with alot of re-coil.

My friend who i was hanging with (local texan, who was born in chicago), his mom of 80 carried something similar with her all the time, some guy would have got the shock of his life if he tried to rob her, she would have used it as well, she took no poo.

A friend of mine had a hilarious one, doctor told him he was a fat git and to do some exercise, so he took up walking to the gun club rather than driving. The smackhead who pulled a knife on him got rather a shock when he ended up looking down a 45ACP barrel. I suspect he would have been rather more shocked if he had known it was always carried loaded with a rather "warm" handload cartridge with SJHP rounds...

Looks more like an AK74 to me.
No muzzle brake and curvature of magazine is slightly different, in the USA minimum barrel length for all rifles is 16", unless you're going down the Class III route, barrel is longer than military AK47.
