One of the guys in the office just showed me this in yesterday's Sun, I had to check the date to make sure it wasn't April 1st!

I'd love to have been in the meeting where this idea was thought up!
The thing is, in the pic the kid is at least 10 feet away from the bus stop - FAIL!!

Guys guys guys...
To be fair this is just "Unit 1"
In order to progress through the whole course he needs to complete such increasingly difficult tasks as:
- Assembling the correct change for the £1 bus fare
- Sitting in a seat that doesn't already have someone in it
- Not knifing the bloke behind him in the face for asking if he could turn down his mp3 player

NOT knifing him? It's a certificate from somewhere in Bury you know...
Public transport? You can keep it, and your certificates for using it.
I don't know about anyone else, but I don't want to catch 'poor'.
Wasn't it Thatcher that said, "If a man is still riding the bus by age 30 he is a failure."
Talk about preparing kids for the future...

Don't you guys keep up with the times. This government has a mandate to increase the number of qualifications held by school leavers. A target is a target you know, it has to be reached......Of course if he had actually been given a certificate for catching the bus to SCHOOL that would have been worth having.

What shocks me most about this whole thing is that anyone still reads the Sun tbh.

That's a bit rich from someone from Halifax!;)
If only the council/education dept had been (as) helpful when I used to live there and needed help for my kids. It could make my blood boil but I gave up hope for the "system" years ago.
What depresses me more is the fact that I wasn't suprised that something like this could happen.
This level of qualification is widely used in the Special Needs sector (I should know, I coordinate accreditation in our School). Without these schemes our students would leave school without a nationally recognised award, and would struggle to progress on to FE courses. They have their place and are very good at what they do.
Thank you :)

I hope you didn't drop your monocle in your glass of brandy???
;)
To be perfectly honest, if someone needs to use a bus then they are probably in need of special classes on how to use a bus.
I don't use buses because I'm afraid of catching 'poor'

I hope that the course content is a bit more substantial than the one quoted in the article!
We need to remember, though, that there is a difference between education, certification and qualification. Sadly it seems that nowadays many can't distinguish between them. My personal view is that there is too much societal emphasis on certification at the expense of real education.

I saw one lying in the gutter as I was driven past Oxford street the other day, not sure if it had been read or merely left to blow around after the hamster cage had been lined. Wretched buggers leaving litter on the streets, there ought to be a law...
Hitler joke...:p
That'll teach me to read the whole thread before posting

Certificate - WTF?
Poor transport - You bloody load of snobs you lot! ;) I've lived in Edinburgh and now Birmingham, in those places the bus is second on my list of preferred transport after the bike, bus lanes and no parking = essential!
