Was in my local Halfords the other day looking at Sat Navs with me mum (living the dream I know...) and saw they had a set of 10 (8-19mm) bendy head clicky ratchet spanners, i drooled until I saw the price... £80!!! They're having a laugh I exclaimed...

Well, someone must've heard me as the very next day I went in and they were a on sale for a more reasonable £40:

Just in case anyone was interested:D:cool:

I've got a set of them and they're pretty good, not 80 quid good but good. I got mine for about £40 a couple of years ago

they are currently doing a set of screw drivers free when you buy 5L of semi or fully synth oil.

Lifetime guarantee, not a fan tho, I prefer a socket set with shorty spanners for working on cars and bikes, there isn't always the space to swing the ratchet bit. Knuckle head spanners are more useful IMHO

they are always £40, except when they put them up to £80 for a few weeks in order to offer them at half price again!

(They are really good spanners mind)

The screwdrivers are, I have 3 sets (2 lots free with oil) work well and I think I have enough to outlast me (well with 3 sets!).

The ratchet will eventually break (well the one on my 8mm did anyway), and leave you with a one ended spanner, and the ratchet isn't covered by the lifetime guarantee.

What oil do you have to buy to get the free screwys? Bike's just about ready for a service. Might have to make a dreaded halfrauds buy(providing it's not crap oil/usual halfords priceing)...although I get staff discount which is a plus :)

...and the ratchet isn't covered by the lifetime guarantee.Slight clarification...

Moving parts aren't covered for wear and tear, but if they malfunction you should still be covered

Well I have a set and they are really useful. They complement my spanners and socket set nicely, so certainly not something I would buy before a decent set of spanners or socket set. I paid £38 last summer :D

they are the pro version, so thats the life time warranty...

worth it ;-)

Personally I have not found a use for them on a bike that either of my socket sets can cater for ........ that`s why I`ve resisted buying them , spend the money on a Torque Wrench if you do not have one yet .

I already have a torque wrench, two in fact:-dd

An oil filter bolt for one of the filters on the 560SMR needs a bendy head spanner to reach it, and I'd be amazed if KTM didn't see fit to put other inaccessible bolts on their bikes:D

thats sooo unlike KTM :) i love working on my 640. no really. it never infuriates me. fer instance fitting a new bulb in the rear lights was a joy. dint involve removing half the rear end in anyway shape or form...

I just have a cheap set of spanners that I can bend to any angle I like - works a treat ;-)

That is why I added "if you do not have one yet" . First port of call after buying socket sets would be a Torque Wrench , especially if you do a lot of your own spannering , you`ll be amazed at how much you overtighten stuff , then again when Luckypants and I were putting my forks back together I was guessing the Torque settings by hand and he was checking with a Torque Wrench afterwards and I wasn`t far out :) . And as Lone Wolf has stated , he has 2 and so do I , one for low range stuff and another for Wheel Nuts , Sprocket changes etc . I`m not dissing the Bendy Spanners by the way , I just try and justify them and realised I would probably spend more time oiling them to keep the rust off them than using them ;) , My Teng Tools kits have done me proud for the last 15 years .

I have a set of Sealey ratchet spanners. One end is open ended and the otehr a ring ratchet. Handy if you cant get a socket in there.

Halfords stuff is expensive even at half price. To date i have NEVER snapped a spanner, eben with brute force and ingonrance. However, my Halfords torque wrench is broke after about 15 uses (But over 3 years old) the rathet has just siezed, and as said not covered under warranty. My Draper one however is fine after a lot more use.

The thing with the ratchet on Torque wrenches is if you can prove it isn`t worn out and it has hardly been used then the ratchet is defective and not fit for purpose if it has broken under normal use and should be replaced .

If a halfords ratchet breaks then the most common remedy is to snap/bend the handle in a vice/however possible and get it replaced.

I'll second that one, i work at halfords and i'm always happy to replace pro tools when someone brings them in broken but managers are usually right stifflers for not replacing stuff cos they class it as a "moving part".

Having a trade card from working there is great for tools, 20% off minimum usually.
