Just for those of you who know Bikerchick82 (Kate from Girls Bike 2 -Hitchin).

She was hit by a car, fortunately being a fabby rider, she managed to stay on but the wing mirror of the cage that hit her has broken her wrist.

GWS hon :(

I don't think I've met the lady in question, but am glad it wasn't any worse, if well wishes ease the pain or speed recovery, you're most welcome to mine.

GWS

Cheers Mark.

VT....Start running cos I'm gonna kill you

Thanks guys, the docs reckon I've got a fractured scaphoid (bit at the base of your thumb) I've done it before and it took me 12 weeks to heal :(

All down to a cager deciding he wanted to be in front of the bike...

I was heading home after work and was on a straight bit of road, as I came up to a junction on my left, I could see the car there and luckily I started slowing and moving out to the centre of the road when I saw him.
Then, whaddya know! He pulls out  Well, I went from 6th to 2nd in one swift movement and started to swerve to avoid him, there wasn't any point in braking cos I'd have gone into the back of him.

All was going well until I was almost passed him, he could see that I was almost around him and God knows what went through his head but he bloody pulled further out towards the central line! :smt093
That's when I hit his wing mirror (I think it was the mirror anyway) My first reaction was to put my hand out to stop him coming closer (yeah cos I'm that hard I can stop a moving car with one hand!) That's when I got that horrible sicky feeling....

Maybe it was wrong of me but I didn't stop....He wasn't stopping (would you if you'd just tried forcing a biker off the road?) I knew that if I stopped then I wouldn't be able to start again and I was still 6 miles from home....

So ummm yeah....I carried on....

I did as little with the clutch as possible (I didn't realise there were four traffic lights coming back from there....I do now!) I do clutchless up changes anyway so that wasn't too much of a problem and I did a few clutchless down changes as well. I'm not hard though, there were a couple of roundabouts/traffic lights where I was in tears :smt087

I got home by telling myself that if motogp racers can race with a bust wrist then I could ride home!
Pulled up on the drive (on a slope so more clutch needed!) turned the bike off and slid off the bike - got inside and almost passed out when I took my glove off....Told OH that I needed to go to hospital, went, got xrayed, got plastered in a bad way, got told to go back in two weeks and that's where I'm at!

Jesus, that lot took me ages to type out one handed! :smt044

Now now Katie! At least you're ok hon!
Im sure that everyone would be asking why you didn't turn up at Soho on Friday night, so I thought I would pop this up so they knew.

By the way, if Plowsie comes down in the car, you could always try and bum a lift and come along?????

bikerchick82
19-08-09, 09:37 AM
I won't say yes but I won't rule it out either....I've been popping pain killers like they're going out of fashion so I'm not always with it....

The last time I did my wrist I at least gave myself a bit of concussion so I couldn't register how much it hurts!! :smt044

Oh God girl, you take care!
Im guessing you are off work then?
Maybe if you are feeling strong enough and Plowsie does a no-show you can pillion with Mr VT or get Mr BC to bring you? (although I know you dont like to pillion...its better than nothing)

Yeah I've done the scaphoid a few times now....Although I do usually manage to hit my head at the same time to take my mind off my wrist!

I don't think I could do that trip again, I knew I couldn't start again once I stopped which is why I kept going, I couldn't ring OH either to come get me on the trailer because he'd been up since 3am that morning and out on the wagons all day so I knew he'd be tired......Guess I'm just kinda stubborn

Isn't there a shirt in your shop that says
'You don't need balls to ride a bike'...?

Well if you had 'em, yours would be made of Steel (remember ..Ive seen you ride!)

To be honest I was too busy trying to get out of the way and then trying not to pass out/up chuck in my helmet....

I'm such a girl sometimes, the thought of getting his number didn't even occur to me until I was sat in a&e

And really, I'm a girl, there were a few tears and lots and lots (did I mention lots?) of swearing! If my helmet hadn't already been blue then it would have been by the time I got home :smt005

Get well soon BC82, I had a friend who fell off his BMX (when he was in his twenties) and saw how painful that break can be.

Pretty cool to have ridden out of it, I doubt the driver even realised you were hurt. Well, if that does not make you a heroine, I don't know what will. I think I would have cried lots and made the wife come and get me.

Anyway, heal fast and get back on the bike soon.
Hugs and smiles,

Jayne

I have to admit that the bike kraft that I did in Northants probably had a lot to do with me not being as bad as I could have been.....

Before I did the course I would have been riding a lot more aggressively than I was, as it was when I saw the car I'd already started moving out towards the centre of the road before it registered that he wasn't going to stop.....I'm certain that I was only able to avoid him because I'd already taken precautionary steps to miss him.

I'm definitely in favour of taking advanced lessons/courses these days, you never know when they'll come in handy!

It's funny because my very first accident was in a similar situation - Brake or avoid? - and that one had a very different outcome, the bike got written off, the car got written off and so did I. I was actually riding faster on Monday night than I was back then as well.....Goes to show that experience really helps as well lol!

Doesn't stop me looking like a complete gimp when I'm trying to do up my trousers though :smt044:smt044
