Been pondering this for all of 2 mins:
You know how in the US everyone calls the president and ex-presidents as "Mr President" to them in person.
However, if I (being a British Citizen) met Barack Obama or George Bush etc. would I have to refer to them in the same manner?
Just read in an article a whilde back about George Bush getting ****y because someone didn't call him "Mr President" which left me thinking "Do you have to if you're not a US citizen?"
i wouldnt.......... hes not my president

Have to? You don't HAVE to call them anything.
Did any of the presidents change their name to suit their job title?
If not, they'd be "Mr Bush" or "Mr Obama" to me... doesn't matter if they're still doing the job or not.

Or surely just plain "George" would be fine!? Just another person to me.
How about, "now then matey?"

If you ever watched that 2DTV program that did the animations, you can just imagine him sitting throwing all his toys out of his pram at this!

i'd say "sup homes" with a high five
Once a president I think they retain the title......the other day they were still refering to clinton as President Clinton (not ex).
I also think it is just a respect and decency thing. You would not meet the queen and just call her Lizzy. I imagine if you thought along those lines, with those attitudes you would never be in a position to meet her directly anyway, or any presidents.

I wouldnt call her "Lizzy! However, I don't think respect should automatically be given especially when I had absoultely nothing to do with putting him in a position of power in the first place.

But you did have something to do with choosing the queen?

I know what your saying. It the line you draw between becoming the person that walks behind David Cameron doing guns signs showing a complete lack od decency and common repect... or just ignoring the people you dislike and getting on with your life.

Yes
Nah, to me they'd just be another person on the street TBH. At the end of the day they are human the same as me and we both take a **** at the end of the day. I only address people as "Mr" (or Mrs etc) if I have a lot of respect for them.
Respect for Bush?... If he got hissy with me for not calling him "Mr President" I'd tell him where to go.....in the same way that I raise two fingers at Buckingham Palace every morning :D
People used to refer to Elizabeth I as 'Queen Tib'.
I respect Her Majesty but as others have said, I didn't vote for her and frankly she lives in a damn big house (or rather, several damn big houses) down south and I live in a much smaller one oop north, and whether I like it or not I help pay her council tax at a time when I struggle to pay my own.

They also retain the Secret Service protection for the rest of their natural lives. Why if they just did a job for a few years do they need that i wonder?
Is it cos they are all corrupt to the hilt and self serving (jeez i think i made the swear filter faint there)
