Zuky's tax is up at the end of the month, I am skint and never ride her due to poo weather.

Do I SORN her now or in 6 months time. I never go on ride outs so is it worth it, I know it's not alot but its better in my pocket than the DVLA's.

You can get a fine, I know they are laggin behind on them at the mo as a back log but I think if you come to tax it and it's not be SORN'ed you mayhave to pay the back tax or a fine.

I would rather SORN it and tax it mid month than risk the fine. Only take a min online.

I dont ride her at the mo due to the poo weather as per my OP. I do ride when nice but with mu shifts I always miss the good weather.

Selling is not in my way of thinking, just weighing up putting her to bed for the winter early since we are more or less in winter now LOL

I DONT WANT TO SELL !! Grrr

My confidence is poo so I would rather get some back with dry roads instead of being tense and sorry if I am a girlie rider but thats my choice at the mo - why would that make me want to sell? I use her for comuting to work mainly and I cant turn into work looking like a drowned rat.

I cant do ride outs at the mo as my arm will support about 40 mins riding, I plan to be building that stength back up but will take time so maybe next Summer I will be back to full health.

So no more selling comments !!!

OK lock the thead someone wish I never bothered LOL

Woah! Lets get a different perspective on this.

You love your bike - check
You want to rid it more - check
You dont wanna sell it - check

So wrap her up and get her out when you can. Not all of us have to be all weather bikers. Mine is my only form of transport, by choice. So i ride all year round. I never hold it against anyone who dont do the same as me. How dull would life be if we were all like each other.

Selling the bike means you'd have no bike next year and it'd cost money out the bank that you probably wonuldnt save from the sale of this one right? No-one life is that organised is it?

So SORN it, warp it up. Read a few of the threads on here about over winter storage and lets hope we see pics of you out anf about on her again next year.

just my 2p worth of course but i though this thread needs a bit more balamce thn the knee jerk sell it comments.

Or.

But seriously, its August! When is it going to get much better than this?! I rode 60 miles last night, there was some rain, but then the sun came out and everything was glorious. If you want to SORN it to wait til better weather then you'll have to SORN it and move it to France, cos the only better weather than this in the UK happens for a sum total of 1 week a year.

Spiderman

I know what you mean but we dont all have the same taste in riding weather do we? I know some peeps who dont ride when its too sunny, go figure that one out, lol.

Point i was making was its madness to sell something you own and love...especially if you aint got a pile of cash sitting about waiting for you to spend it on another toy. So the sensible idea is to put it away and get it out when you know you will have time to use it. Time and money also seem to be factors for Shelly, not just the weather. ANd working shifts means she dont get to always enjoy the weather when it suits her i guess.

Gotta agree with Warty on this one!

If you don't want to sell (which I get the distinct impression is the case! ;) ) why not tax the bike and make a real effort to get out on it lots over the next month or two?

Then you can get back in the swing of things and still enjoy some of the nice Autumn days. It also means that you avoid the situation of being down on confidence AND having a further 6 mths/yr off the bike...

whisper mode on/ or ride it untaxed if you get the chance / whisper mode off.

but shes a cop so i guess she has to do the right thing. If the tax is about to run out whats the harm in keeping the annoying authorities happy and having the SORN certificate and then if you get the chance sneak out on the bike and hope you dont get caught? Naughty, i know but then i was never one to not be naughty when the mood is right i guess.

Spot on Spidey - I planned to go to work on her tonight just to give her a run as her battery has been dead due to lack of use. But the rain has killed that. Everytime I think I will go to work on her the weather seems to play a factor, so I thought SORN. I know it's early to SORN thats why I am ummm'in and arrghh'in LOL and yes if I sell I wont have the cash next year as I will always use Zukys dosh to mend summat that needs mending LOL.

Right work calls again so I shall say tara and enjoy sitting in a cage all night nice and warm :p

I thought it was dependant on how long ago you last taxed it as to the size of the fine. Some folks around here have been fined two or three times that according to the local paper.

Shell, it really depends on HOW skint you are and if you really need the money, also how much you really want to ride at the moment, Im sure you have some biker friends that would be only too happy to let you have a few minutes of riding just to keep your hand in...??

To put it into perspective:

- You have an injury that wont really allow you to make full use of the bike for longer rideouts
- The bad weather is coming
- Your confidence is down and you need lots of riding to pick it up

Therefore in my humble opinion for what it's worth, SORN and wrap Zuky up.

Next year when you have less pressures of: time/weather/injury you can get her back on the road, ride out in the warmth at your leisure with friends and build up your confidence with no pressure or time limit.

If you do carry on riding her this year,it will only be a couple of months before you will garage her for the winter and then it will be a few months before you start riding her again and your confidence that you worked so hard to build up now will be lost.

I know you said money is tight but I am sure you could find 6 months worth of tax. That way in a few weeks when the weather is good and you can get out on her when not on shift you can have some fun. I am sure you would be really p1ssed off to wrap her up then find that summer is just around the corner.

WTF!!!

Who am I kidding - SORN her and wrap her up for now.

Is it still insured? I'm sure road tax is a small proportion of the cost of the insurance. In which case cancel the insurance and bolt her down or change to one of those that prevent theft if you dont intend to ride.

My view is that having the option to ride is better than not. What is it about the rain that stops you from riding? Maybe get some better water proofs? Sort out a set of clothing at work? I know I sometimes question why I decide to ride in some of the monsoon rain we get down here ;)

If money is a major factor then do it and save where you can! If its the principle I'm sure mr darling already has ways of removing money from your pocket.

£60 on the road fine if caught by the plod. The DVLA can send stuff through the post from their database.

Thats why its' always best to SORN and retax. The Police will give ytou the £60 for failing to display whereby the DVLA will give you for the fine for not Sorning and not having tax.

Just out of interest, whats up with the arm? It seems like it was a while ago, but it also doesn't seem to be improving.

I got the OK to use arm just under a year ago after 14 months of not using it. My issue is I had major muscle wastage on shoulder and the stability muslces that run down the shoulders blades down ya back.

I hammered the gym to get fit for work but the muscles are still not back to what they were (my fault lazyness and not enough hard work at the gym).

The muscles down my back are weak and after about 40mins I feel like my back is locking up and I need a good stretch. I get back pains which then run to my neck and my shoulders seize up (old injury) - so in a nutshell after 40 mins I am like a doddering old man in that much pain riding the bike is a no no. Tense arms come into play and my cornering gets worse (if it can) LOL

Gym over the winter and lots of swimming .... if I can find the time ha ha ha
