Tarantino might have his deviations (blood, gore, etc) but ain't he one son of a b***h of a film director.........

I have only ever seen the Kill Bill films and thought that if that is what his work is like then I would rather not watch anything else. They sucked. BIG TIME!

saw it today ( orange wednesdays) absoloutly loved it , another great film from tarantino
More film geekery from Quentin, it's a marmite film, you're either gonna love it, or absolutely hate it.
I think he's lost the way, he's so full of his own hype he doesn't notice that he's become a parody of his own self.

Despite a tendencey to gore I think his films are brilliant... my all time fave is still From Dusk til Dawn, I look forward to seeing Inglorious but it hasn`t got George Clooney in it

MBK go watch the KIll Bills again, I thought PLOP! when I first saw them but watched them again recently and its the suttle comedy that I missed first time round which really brings the film to life.

He is one of those disturbed people, like Roman Polanski...
However I must admit that he is a genius in a sick way...exploring the darkness of human beings...not really the kind of movies you leave the cinema with that 'feelgood' bounce.
However I do like the costumes in most of them... Oh how I wanted a yellow jumpsuit after Kill Bill ;)

QT did the screenplay for that, but it was directed by Robert Rodriguez.
It is a great film. A bank-robber-getaway-thriller for the first half, then it morphs into a cheesy-vampire-gore-fest.
Brilliant...must add it to my Bluray wishlist

Amen. Finally someone with taste.
The dialogue is to die for. Literally.
God if its anything like Kill Bill... wait for it.

.
well lets just say it will be tosh.
Excuse me while I don't jump on the Tarantino band wagon, he's made some good films, well 2 good ones and one entertaining one. But the latest lots is such rubbish, he's mixed different film types and realities into his films and ruined the whole underlying point of them.
So I won't be going to watch this unless someone got free tickets and are trying to prove me wrong.

Saw Inglourious last night, loved it! The way it flicks from dark, to gore, to funny and back again is brilliant.
Oh, and Pulp Fiction is one of (if not the) greatest films ever made but it does take a couple of watches to take it all in!
True Romance too is one of my favourite films which hasn't been mentioned on here yet.

must admit that my opinion of the movie might be a bit biased taking into consideration the fact that I've seen Pulp Fiction well over 10 times...
Directing aside, I love how "Inlourious Basterds" gives the Jewish community a taste of what many of them believed they wanted; i.e. roles being turned for the Nazis, and once they have seen the gory movie scenes asking them if that is really what they would like to be doing... Is it just me or did someone else understood the movie in this way?
Dusk till dawn isnt the best to be honest, but then didnt he only write the script he didnt actually direct that one?
Whether you like his style of story telling he has certainly made history with his very unique style of cimema. There is something very unmistakable about Ts film´s.
The gore within his films I think are done with extreme skill, the way he has carefully worked out all fight sceens, and camera angles to ensure that you don´t disengage from the film. Each of his film has had amazing casts, sound tracks and visual impacts for the audience.
I understand if you dont find his type of gore to your liking however, there is without a shadow of a doubt one amazing director there.

haha, its a tricky one for sure and not one ANYONE thinks about as far as i know.
I only discovered it in a random interview that Tarantino did and even he said to the interviewer that no-one thinks about it and was impressed that he was been asked about it.
Look forward to the PM, dont go googling it now tho. That'd just spoil the fun :)

A platoon of Jewish commandos who operate behind enemy lines in occupied France using guerilla warfare and brutality to insight fear amongst the German ranks.
Typical Tarantino, it jumps between a couple of seemingly unrelated personal stories, but it soon becomes apparent they are intertwined and will all come together soon enough. Less difficult to follow first time around than Pulp Fiction, though.
It's a combination of WW2 flick (with some ideas based on fact, although it's not historicallly accurate) and classic "revenge movie" themes. Although unusually, it's mostly about revenge on a racial*, rather than personal level. I think part of its appeal is that whilst the "good guys" do terrible things to people and in some cases, behave very dishonourbly, you can chuckle along sadistically without any guilt, because it's the Nazis who are on the recieving end.
* I think Tarantino originally planned this to be more apparent, as he hoped to include a platoon of black soldiers (who were supposed to be used as cannon fodder), who don't want to play ball and go rogue, but couldn't include it as the film was already too long. :)

Watched this last night. I enjoyed it, but no-way as much as I thought I would given what I had read on here. I thought the first half was great, but lost it's way towards the end. I wouldn't say I am or am not a Tarantino fan - I take each one as the come, but in my mind it isn't a patch on Kill Bill.

Update,
Had to order a new copy of pulp fiction as cant find vhs copy so will watch as soon as it arrives.
Im determined to find this info out, i was in the lake district last week, even tried to find a dvd store so i could watch it up there.
I will probably be pm'ing you soon if i dont manage to figure it out.

Ok so I finally got around to seeing this last night and have to say that T has certainly not lost his touch.
The cinematography was amazing, and not just part of the film, all the way through the film. The camera panning over the top of the rooms, classic T vision, the lighting was just superb and puts a lot of other directors to shame.
I would say though I am disappointed with the casting of Brad pitt in this film. There are so many other talents out there, T didn’t need Pitt´s name on this to make it a hit, and he isn’t quite of an age to do these roles as yet IMHO. Saying that, Pitt does do stupid remarkably well!
The format of the film in chapters I thought worked better in Kill Bill and this film didn’t need it at all. I was also slightly disappointed with some of the sound, I understand that he is trying to use his signature effects, however it´s a new film, I felt that it could have been an opportunity to try new effects out as well.
As always the story was told amazingly well, lovely references and fantastic supportive cast. Christopher Waltz certainly deserved his Cannes, best actor. His command of languages was certainly very impressive.

I agree with your comments; especially about the soundtrack as it definitely could do with a bit of refreshing. However, I do believe that Pitt was actually a very good fit for the role - I think I'll always remember his Buongiorno line :D Although must say that C Waltz was clearly the best actor of the movie!

I loved this film :) the GF did not at all!
I love Tarantino films but i have to say, even as an Anime lover* I just couldn't finish Kill Bill, maybe I was in the wrong mood or something but it's one of the few films I had to actually turn off.
*all my friends kept telling me I'd love it because I like Anime and it's like an Anime movie type thing....
I, thankfully, fell asleep after the first 30 mins and missed the middle hour.
I then spent the next hour trying to scoop out my eyes with a wooden spoon.
Apart from some decent acting by Brad Pitt, what a load of rubbish!

The first scene in the farmhouse - talk about tension. I don't think I've ever felt so on edge watching a film.

excellent scene, but thought the scene in the bar where the undercover agent/spy was questioned on his accent by a commendant was equal in tension
