Just renewed my insurance for my SV .

Fully Comprehensive cost me around 650 quid. 3 years no claims. Im 20

What disheartens me is how un-reassuring I feel with fully comp

basically I feel there is so many terms and conditions that I get the impression the chances of them actually coughing up with the money if anything was to happen is very slim.

One example would be her asking me if it is kept in a garage. I said yes, then when I had decided to take the insurance out at the end she mentioned checking the booklet about garages as if to say its got to be a special type of garage or we won’t pay up!

And the mileage I will be doing, and where I will be riding, what type of riding (ie commuting)

Then they ask if you want legal cover, breakdown, blah blah blah for extra money!

Thought fully comp was going make me sleep easy!!!!!! , I feel that if I am not starting in a brick garage with a blue door then riding… not going too far…. in the right direction… with the correct chain under my seat….. with a pillion…riding leisurely…… and my bike isn’t modified then I might aswell be THIRD DAMM PARTY!

I don't declare any security devices used on my bike. I have said it is kept in a garage which it is but nothing else. for the same reason, dont want to give them a reason to not pay out.

Insurance companies will ONLY give you a discount for the main security on you bike, not all of it. However if you tell em you have loads of security and then dont use it they will try and get out the claim by saying it was you fault for not securing the bike with the devices you told em you had.

I'm the same as Mr Spiers above, i told em i got no security on the bike at all.

The usual garage disclaimer are that if it is stolen between certain times and it was not garaged the excess doubles.

Surely you checked everything before taking out the premium.

Cheapest is not always best as well.

You dont buy your favourite product down a dodgy market from some bloke you have never heard of because it was the cheapest place to get it, so dont buy your insurance from the cheapest people either. The cheapest is guaranteed to be the crappest customer service and the first to to try and get out of paying by some hidden disclaimer.

650 quid is a bit steep considering you have 3 yrs ncd.

<- Renewing this month, £536 fully comp, 1yrs experience, 1yrs no claims, unlimited mileage, £250 total excess...

Dude who are you insured with? I have just renewed again with Carol Nash I got a phat quote, so I took it.

I keep mine in a garage with an alarm, I got breakdown and legal in with my price. It was cheaper than last year so thats good.

I pay a lot less than the above, but I do hussle them to give me a good deal; was worth the effort put in. I got cheaper quote from another company but this was by far a so much better deal.

Where do you live is an area know for vehicle theft ect?

Best think of your insurance as part of your bike. Shop around but don't skimp - you wouldn't on tyres or brake pads

all those questions are pretty normal on a fully comp policy

sadly you never find out how good your insurance company is unless you're unfortunate enough to make a claim. My experience is that you get what you pay for

I would also try the comparison web sites next year. That does sound a bit steep unless you live in a part of an inner city which is usually on fire.

It does that quite a bit for Watford, I'm in Harrow. My insurance company wanted a lot more to begin with, but I got it down to a reasonable price. Have you paid for it yet? If not have a bit more of a look around.

Though I do remeber when I insured my first car @ 17 £666 for a F reg fiesta 1.1L its a bit less now. But it does seem my bike is cheper to insure than a car.
