View Full Version : Changing an engine case?
Can someone tell me if this is an easy job for a novice to do. I'm not going to get in a mess or find myself covered in engine parts if I change the engine case myself? Will I need to drain the oil or is it low enough in the sump not to matter?

I know some of you are going to say touch it up but I want it back to the way it was!

That's not an engine case it is a clutch cover by the look of it.
Lean bike other way from the cover. You should see in sight glass how high the oil is.

looks easy providing there's nothing stupid happennin cutout at the top of the pic. I'm sure you'd get away with that with a can of high temp paint though...

People swap them out for Woodcraft et.c ones all the time. Easy job, just make sure you order a new gasket as sods law will dictate that if if don't, the old one will rip!
I wouldn't bother draining the oil. As YC says it sits in the sump which is lower than that point, so just leaning the bike away from you will be fine.
Ideal so I can't break anything by doing this myself. :-D
