As some of you know, i rather whimsically bought Si's old Dullsville over the summer. It has since sat making the front of my house look like a brakers yard....until now. So today I thought I'd make a start as I want it ready for winter. Just look what was waiting for me under all that plastic.
As if painting the rad gold would make people ignore the copious amounts of rust!

Mmmmm, rusty carb tops

Gonna be fun getting those off

A small oil leak evident from cylinder 2!

I'm sure they aren't meant to do that...

Rear caliper now ready for rebuild

Next to get the rocker covers off and do the valve clearences...:rolleyes:

Nah mate - that's the anti corrosion equivalent of a scottoiler :)

Ah, and there was me thinking I'd been sold a sh*tter ;-)
Si - if you are reading this mate, I ain't havin a dig. I wanted a project and that's what I got.
I think I will have her up and running good as...er well running by next week anyway. Tappets (they don't have shims apparently) tonight and flush rad out (the water inside was brown). Think one of the fork seals may be leaking though...
Bit of T-cut should sort that mate.

Hey, if I was doing, it, Phill would be doing it anyway :lol:
Well in was sat outside my house throughout last winter and most of spring. I never looked that far inside the plastics. Those pictures tell me it was the right choice. :oops:

In short, he saw you coming Phil! :p
Will be interesting to see how you get it all working though, certainly looks a challenge.

Hehe. Never mind - it will make it all the more satisfying when I get it up and running. Cosmetically I don't give a monkeys. i've got some tins of hammerite sat around, and now I have a use ;-)
On a side note, never spill petrol all over the drive and not wash it away -my house mates had a dinner party last night and the whole house stinks like petrol fumes. Oooops, I'm not popular!

UPDATE...
Valve clearences all sorted, and amazingly only one needed adjusting - Honda reliability for you I guess. The rocker cover gaskets look completely FUBAR'd, but I'll give it a go and se if it leaks. Not like my other bikes leak oil or anything :p .

Now started ripping the carbs apart. Aside from a bunch of siezed screws that required some hacksaw and mallet / punch work to remove, they look reasonable clean inside.

You know, I've never even seen a carb! Looks complicated.
Looks pretty spanking... what're you doing about float bowl gaskets?

Re-fitting and keeping fingers crossed...If that fails I have a nice tube of black silicon sealer that should do the trick....The aim is to get a road worthy bike for a minimum cost. Cost so far:
Bike = £200
Ebay carb inlet rubbers = £2.99
Can of carb cleaner = £2.99
Anticipated costs:
New front tyre = £85ish
Oil = £20
MOT = £28

How comes you pulled apart the carbs? Did it not run very nice?

Don't know, I've never started it, but they had been sitting full of fuel for about 9 months. might as well give em a once over when they are off the bike.

The whole point of Philbut getting this bike is not to get a ruuning Dullsville, its to get something to pull apart! Its the spannering he secretly likes, if he bought a new gixxer he'd strip it just to make sure. :lol:

Another "exciting" installment of the Dullsville tale. Front forks were weeping so i decided to strip them and put new oil and seals in. Also got hold of a new set of gaiters to kep winter crud at bay. amazingly after all that abuse, the yolks are in better condition than Nicks, which have 1/3 of the milage on and are 6 yearts younger - Honda quality again I guess!
Street figher Deauville...nah, maybe not.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll236/philbut/Deauville/P1000050.jpg
Forks look in reasonable shape considering milage. Not too much corrosion on stantions either.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll236/philbut/Deauville/P1000054.jpg
Mmmmm I'm sure fork oil isn't meant to be grey. It smells like the stuff that used to come out of ships' thrusters when I worked at Rolls Royce.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll236/philbut/Deauville/P1000055.jpg
Nice new seals to go in.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll236/philbut/Deauville/P1000058.jpg
And rebuilt forks back on the bike.

Rolls Royce marine systems in Ulsteivic - Norway. They make and service all sorts of manoeuvring thrusters for ships, and also prop shafts etc. They own loads of firms like Aquamaster, and Ulstein who build big ships.
I was working with the 36 tonne jobbies. You should see the oil seals in them! Sod screw drivers and rubber mallets, we used blow torches, cranes and lump hammers to work on them! I'll try and find a piccy and post it up -they were impressive bits of kit.

Yeah, Phill has been a ship welder in Norway, cycled land's end to John o groats, grew up on a farm, and I *think* he can fly and cook microwave meals with his stare too. He is my hero.
