I've used helmet cams for ages on the enduro now and got some really good results from a very basic setup (ATC-2K).
I was browsing the net looking for something newer with more memory when I found this :-

http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/at-1-wireless-helmet-cameras.htm

I added a 8gig sd card to the order and am really happy with the service and package.

£149 for a cheap good quality setup.

Remote camera means no wires so you can move the camera about on the bike easier and you can even view what the camera is seeing from inside the pub on the wireless handset....

The camera arrived the very next day so I (very quickly) mounted on the bar end weight before meeting up with Plowsie and VT.

The sound can be a little fuzzy as times due to the wind but I plan to just pop a patch of sponge and tape over the mike.

I will add a few videos soon.

Nice! whats the battery life like on the wireless cam or is that part wired to the bike?
If you could hook up 2 cameras that would be ideal (front/rear)

Do the camera and the recorder use the same charger? I mean, can you charge them both at the same time?

I got 2 hours of top quality footage with one charge but speaking to the guys at dogcam they say it needs to be fully charged and depleted a few times to build up the battery life.

The cam it totally wireless but I'm installing a charging point on the bike to plug it into so will then be powered from the bike battery.

Will post some up soon.

Both are charged via a mini USB port .
You get one pc lead and one mains charger.
I plugged both into the pc to charge no problems at all.

what would be good is a cheep looping dvr so when you turn on bike it auto starts recording.

ive seen the HQR-1 & HQR-2, good thing with these is they can do auto start but what i dont like is that (if you have it on cycle) everytime you turn on it wipes the old files, but it also supports LANC, so you have have a remote on it to start stop, the HQR-2 can also record PIP of two inputs. Big problem is that all these units are just too expensive.

Just a quick vid to show quality.

For some reason, transfering it to photobucket has made it slightly jerky and the resolution isnt great either:(

I'm not great when it comes to technical so if someone wants to pm me a "how to" I'll put up a better vid.

I found with the atc-2k I had it was a case of setting it up on the bike or helmet, recording a bit and viewing it to see if it was pointing in the right direction.
Great little cams for the money though :)

So could you hardwire the cam and recorder if you wanted??

I know that might defeat the point, but then you have the option to go wireless or not, e.g. you want to put it on your mates bike and you might want to record more than 2 hours.

Never mind speedplay. I just ordered the Mini DVR 2 :D

Decided the wireless one would be too much hassle because I would want it powered by the bike, rather than relying on the battery's. I think the dvr2 is better quality too.

The DVR2 looks good, I may get one too so I can do front and back!!

One slight warning, Cadwell at least wouldn't let me out with the on tank bracket and camera, said they'd had injuries from them, anywhere else (apart from helmet) was fine.

I'm planning to fit it somewhere near the radiator

If you're thinking of getting one, wait until mid-October as the new DVR3 will be available which has better quality video. They said it would be about £260. I would have waited and got it but I want one before next weekend.

If you had a curvy-S I'd say try fitting it pointing out of one of the fake "air intakes", I plan to fit a permanent bracket so I can do the same only obviously in my case with the GSXR fairing.

Other place I tried which worked quite nicely on the NC35 was fitting it to one of the mirror mounts (once the mirrors had been removed obviously).

DarrenSV650S

Yeh the fake air intakes are a possibility on the pointy too, but I don't think I'd get a secure fixing.

I tested a DVR2 over the weekend and was impressed by it :D

The unit is better made then DVR1. it is a little bigger but feels more solid. It has a nice rubber feel to the casing, the menu system is also improved and easy to use.

The sound was very good because of the variable gain mic, it is clear and it picked up the exhaust sound nicely.

The lens has a good angle, copes well with light level change and works well in low light conditions.

A 8GB SD HC takes around 6:30 hours of footage at highest setting, which is plenty. It comes with two battery each lasting for two hours-ish. So IMO you wouldn't need more then a 8GB SD even it can take a 32GB.

The one touch recording is great, you only have to slide the switch to start recording and thats it, no need to power up the unit or fiddle with menus etc. This made it very easy to live with as I can start rec at the right time quickly when on a bike with gloves etc.

another feature is that a footage file lenght can be limited to 5/10/30 mins at a time, it will then auto start a new footage file, making its easy to download and organise hours of footage. There is also a time stamp function if you so wish, but I'll leave it off :-dd

I DIYed a sucker mount for the camera, fits on bike and helmet in seconds with a bit of spit, both work well and I still have the camera :D I'll post a pic tonight.

I'm editing footage taken with the DVR2 from the weekend, I'll post a link to the vid on U-tube over the next few days. :smt024

£200 isn't bad.
When I was talking to the Dogcam guys they were saying the new contour is amazing quality and is what the BBC use.
One thing I would check is that you can charge the camera WHILE recording as one battery will only record 1 or 2 hours.

I've got the Mini DVR-2 which is pretty good, but not brilliant quality. I'll probably sell it and get something better.

Depends on the quality, I'm happy with the quality of my camera but I didn't pay loads for it. Think they're supposed to be around £50 2ndhand
Here's the quality of mine (also bear in mind the youtube hosted vids are of deteriorated quality from the originals):

I wouldn't be able to justify spending £200 on a bike camera bearing in mind what it is, what it does and how much I use it.
On the GM I was just using a digicamera cable tied to my bars and I've used my phone gaffataped to a mirror before ;) Then again I'm from yorkshire.

The problem with movie maker is it doesn't let you have custom control of the settings. Youtube is quite fussy and if you don't have the settings just how you like them then you end up losing quality.
The best thing I would do it get a 10 second clip and export it in all the different settings. Then when you upload it set the video to private, let it process and see which comes out best.

Or a simple way, just learn how to use Vegas. :p

Youve changed since you discovered sex :(

To be honest it's alot of faffing about. I go through phases, sometimes I love Vegas, other times I hate it.

I've been using a bullet camera for a year or so now. I have found the UltraMount (http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/roll-bar-cage-mounts.htm) on the top of this page to be very versatile. It fits tightly onto handlebars, frames, yokes, footpegs, pillion hand grips, etc and can be adjusted in a couple of seconds. For what it costs, I think it is a good investment.

The recorder I use is one of these (http://www.fastfilms.co.uk/dvx-h264-digital-video-recorder.php) with this camera (http://www.fastfilms.co.uk/sony-hq2-bullet-camera.php) attached. I've been happy with the results so far.

I did put my hand in my pocket and buy Adobe Premiere Elements 7 for editing. It gives some excellent result.

When you say he kept catching it on stuff?

Where was he mounting it?

It can be a bit bulky...

I know that Gopro has spent one HELL of alot of money researching into the sound for the new HD... and it looks like it has paid off to be honest. But I don't really be able to comment on that until I buy it... so watch this space :)

I wanted a GP Motorsport, but couldn't justify the cost. You can get them imported from America for about £90-£100, but not enough time before xmas.

And to aid some better mounting points, fit it in your helmet (which i'll probably do).

That's impressive for £50!!

The ebay video looks jittery, like the footage keeps speeding up then slowing down. But the second video looks great. I really like that it is totally inside the helmet. Good find!

Unless im seriously missing something this makes for a very attractive device for the price!

Only downside I can see is the limited battery life (1 hour)

It's bloody good quality video for the price. Not so good indoors with low light but that's not what I'll be using it for. Obviously it's not easy to know what you're filming, which is why you can't see my dogs head at one point. But that wont really be a problem on the bike.

Just out of interest, why did you sell your old set up Darren?

I was a bit disappointed with the quality. Considering the contour hd is only slightly more expensive and has crystal clear video

Fair comment:thumbsup:

I did look at yours when you were selling it but would only be able to use it on the road bike.

I've just been looking at the CountourHD Camcorder!

I'm blown away you can get them for around £200ish. I WANT ONE!!

It's Definitely on my wish list.

Rigor, how much footage do you get on a memory card? i.e. 8gb? 16gb?

Nope, it's the normal one. Wanted it quickly so decided not to hunt down the 1080p version. Video is plenty good enough for me, the actual quality out of the camera is better than the uploaded version.

I only got one battery that seems to be good for a few hours, and the 2gb SD card can take about an hour of video on high quality.

Only thing I would say is that the standard mounts are a bit rubbish. I bought the additional threaded mount and am going to get a ram mount to fit on the bike come spring.

I know!! My uncle lives out there so hopefully he can send me one as a gift, lol.

But I might just order one from uk to save the hassle. Is it better to get the 1080p rather than 720p though??

1080p is in theory a better quality of image providing both cameras are a similar spec (same frame per second rate etc.).
Be warned (unless they've done something clever) the videos it records will be a really big file size so you'll need a good capacity memory card.

True, the videos I recorded on mine were approx 1Gb for 25 minutes of video at 1280x720 30fps. So just under an hour on the 2Gb SD card you get with the camera.
