I was sat the other night, watching a program about the Beatles on BBC4, Liz pronouced it sh*te, so I sky+ it and turned it over. ( This is quite normal in our house we are polar opposites when it comes to TV programs )

I found this article on the BBC website today which made for intersting reading

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8246313.stm

The stuff on there about people on an anti Beatles website receving death threats because they said they didnt like the Beatles had me in stitches...

So do you genuinely like The Beatles, or do you like them because you are supposed to, or cant you stand them.

I dont like the early stuff, just seems like schoolboy poetry to me, but Sgt Pepper I do like and I like the Yellow Submarine animated film ( Yes I know they didnt do the voices for it ) I think probably my favourite Beatles track is "Blackbird"

I KeithD'd the poll, as with most bands I have tracks I like and tracks I dont like, I go on the song, not the artist.

TBH they were (and at least one of the surviving ones) a bit up themselves towards the end of the Beatles, and I hate that kind of arrogance, which is why I seriously dislike Oasis.

Love 'em. Their live performances were a lot different to their studio recordings - really quite raw by comparison. John Lennon was a biker and a bit of a rebel and the early clean cut Beatles image was forced on him.

i like the music rather than the band Ringo Starr has become an arrogant ******* of late

Well the entire back catalouge was released yesterday including a 'Mono' version for how the beatles wanted it to sound! Like hows that going to work on a digital format being played throuh a stereo system of some kind.

If you want it to sound like the real thing then buy the record and play it though one speaker on an old hifi! What a marketing con, it really is.

I voted loathe. again, there are a few tracks i like, but all in all, i just dont get the beatles, same with the stones. I suppose its a generational thing, if you wherent there, you wouldnt know type thing! They were probably ahead of thier time, but nowadays, they sound crap!..oh and paul McCartney annoys the hell out of me, hes such a muppet!

Generally think they are overrated as a band. I do like one or two of their songs but it literally is one or two. I also think none of them can sing.

Keithd option for me, they have a few good songs but nothing that justifies the God-like status they hold in the media and the re-mastered re-releases are just cynical marketing crap which I ain't buying...

Couldn't understand the hysteria surrounding them, quite like the film backbeat and prefer oasis ;)

Not too familiar with the Keithd option, is that 'everything else'?

If so, then that, i don't hate them, but i don't really like their music, some people swear by it as the best there's ever been so fair play, must've done something right.

Liked some of their stuff, really disliked some of their stuff. But even as a 50 year old they were before my time - they'd split up before i was a teenager.

But i feel/agree its a marketing hype thingy.

Now if you ask me about early Genesis :D - each to there own.

Can't stand Paul McCartney - don't know why, just find him to be so arrogant and always giving that peace sign.

As for the other three they're ok

My Dad loves them, had every album on original vinyl and then he met my Mum. He had to sell the lot to keep our family going.

How can I hate them when Dad sacrificed them for my sister and I? So I voted Keith-D, mind you as for the music, I find most of it quite lame, but amazingly do sincerely love Working Class Hero by John Lennon.

Some great songs, some decent songs, some poor songs and some garbage (I Am The Walrus anyone?)

Much like any band really.

Hats off to them for what they did in their time and if you are into the classics then they are gods.

Personally, I find the songs a bit boring...used to like them when I was a kid...does that count?

Ive keithd optioned!

John Lennon was a legend in his own right though and Working Class Hero is a brilliant song!

I chose KeithD as I niether loathe nor love the Beatles. As appears to be the general consensus, some of it is good, some not so good.

I dont like them. I just dont like that sort of music, I dont see why it was so good. I respect it, because it obviously inspired so many people. But I don't want to hear it.

Throw me a copy of metallica and I'm happy

Paul McCartney is crying all the way to the bank.

Isn't this like trying to compare a Ford Fiesta to a Ford Anglia...and sayin the Anglia doesn't have ABS?

You have to be there to say what impact they had.

You don't have to like them but then don't listen to em.

Simple.

I don't like them at all, but they helped inspire a lot of music which I love, so I have to thank them for that I guess. Just like teh Stooges, the Stones, the Pistols, any number of other bands which I don't personally get but who gave other people the spark they needed to make music which I do. But to me they're just another boy band.
