I don't know what the money is. I have simply cut/paste a round robin that was mailed to all the IT dept. Personal experience is that they pay what they can get away with. But as you progress the ladder salary is OK. but never good.

Whilst it is UK based. There is scope for some international travel and a career structure. The UK server farm is about 200 boxes distributed at about 5 principle UK sites. scope to get involved with large SANs, VMWare etc. We are a huge organisation nobody has ever heard of.

OK Rugby is the middle of nowhere. But it is where our UK headquarters is.

I wouldn't worry about a degree. Most of the current incumbents are there on experience rather than qualification

I've forwarded to a mate who may be intersted....tho he may not. He used to be on contractor rates in London (£400 a day) but he decided to take the summer off and may now want a permie role...

Tim I just got a letter today saying I could be out of a job by next Friday. Deflated isnt the word! The Unix post is not for me though (I dont have the right skills or a degree) but if there are any other IT jobs going Im more than interested.

Ummm, seems like everything I do just on a larger scale of servers, unforunatly its way too far out for me.

sorry to read that Mark. I will let you know if anything appears.

They normally ask staff for recommendations of friends/family once the internal recruitment has failed to find a successful candidate. so it fairly rare we are advised of a vacant position.

Strange too how senior roles get appointed without them even being advertised internally?

That job's "bang on" what my mate does. But, alas, he's going to look for work in Australia after a bit of a break in Ibiza & Thailand.
