Hi Wideboy,
asked a similar question myself last week:

Just have a hankering for one - they are quite unique - if that is the right word?

Keep yer mines pies open, there is shortly going to be something up in idle banter about these. Might not answer your questions at first but when certain others see it they might add stuff for you

yeah, odd sord of bike but odd in a good way, well to me personally
i rode it today and was like wow, so comfy for someone my size and not as heavy as i'd have 1st though so reckon it would still be a crack in the corners, i didn't get chance for a proper ride because my foot is still buggered

shhh don't put him off I have some buell parts I need to flog.
I'm quids in with wideboy ;)
Edit: actually that's a valid point, drop it and it'll cost a bomb the headlights and fairing assembly I have cost in excess of £120 second hand, other parts will be just as bad.

apparently the newer buells aren't as crap as the old ones, i will have to get a proper go on one as i believe that bikes should be ridden and not looked at so the SV may have to go :(

If it's a PROPER go you want mate get yersen on here
http://www.buellperformanceacademy.co.uk/
And do one of the trackdays. You can choose which ever one you want and give it a good old seeing to. And seeing as it's you I feel I should mention the ambulance crew are always on the starting blocks when a session is on

Septics being a little bit slow haven't yet seen the light of metric units, however they cannot seem to get their heads round proper imperial measure either and insist on using *******ised and irritating thread forms which are a pain to get tools for!
This is why I don't work on buells or h*rl*ys.
some of us still have old tools from many years ago that fits a treat..unlike u modern day bikers;-)...2 m8's of mine have buell's..1 got shot cos he had probs ..the other is as happy as a pig in ****....sportster engine is reliable as can be...( had one)
My dad has an xb12ss long. I've taken it out a few times and it's great fun. I really like the short wheelbase look and I think they've got the best looking naked front end.
Heads turn with the Remus cans from a mile off and it's pretty awesome on that front. Only cons I'd say would be the laggy throttle response, reliability wise it's had the alternator replaced under warranty but otherwise fine.
With the airbox where it is too in summer you get a bit more hot air round the nards than you'd care for.
If you like the ride get one, they're different! And then get Remus cans and stage 1 tuning.

Spanners just AF are fine, it's the wierd threads the yanks use.

Any jap bodywork and lights would surely be similar money and no radiator to break. They ought to be cheap to service as they don't have valve clearances to check and adjust, and hardly any bodywork in the way.
People obviously love them as there is a thriving owners club. Go for it WB, but be prepared to get your hands dirty sometimes.
Well, maybe not that cheap if these prices are anything to go by

I've only ridden the Ulysses once, its the same engine as the XB12 but with different suspension. It was off road so don't really have the knowledge on this one for road work. However I did take the XB12S on the street, basically the handling showed promise but I didn't like the engine.
As the Ulysses has slightly different geometry I'd say its not as sporty, but then its not meant to be. And as above I'm not a fan of the engine but I can see the attraction.
On the question of reliability everyone knows someone with a tail of woe about any bike brand or model. However anecdotally early Buell's did have problems later models are much improved.
My best advice to you is to go and try one out and the Buell Performance Academy the Stretchie has linked to is an excellent and worthwhile format to try the bike out at.

shouldnt you be looking at getting somehting that you can put stablisers on?;)
..1 got shot cos he had probs ...
:smt068???
As in he got shot?? What problems did he have to warrant getting shot??
Or do you mean he shot his bike up because the bike had problems??
Sorry couldn't resist.

Lucas had a go on an 1125R, in full carbon fibre, at Silverstone the other month. He even got to do some laps on the GP track with it...he liked it! :)
