I have just come back from walking Jasper, let him off his lead as we walked through the gate. The kitchen door is wide open. Not a problem as wife & daughter are home and it is a nice day.
In runs Jasper and all hell breaks out. A damm moggy has come into the house and was interrupted snacking on Jaspers Iams.
Moggy runs upstairs, chased by Jasper and me. It starts snarling at him and leaps through the open bedroom window onto the concrete patio below. I catch Jasper mid leap trying to follow it and send him the long way round.
Surely my house must smell sufficiently of dog to stop a moggie trespassing and thieving Jaspers grub.
Now org wisdom. We like to leave the back door open during the summer to let air in/out. How do we prevent a re-occurrence. I would have hated to think of the harm Jasper could have come to if he had managed to compete his leap from my bed through the open bedroom window.
into my garden. What ever preventative measure to keep the moggies away need to be child friendly as my grandkids play in the gardens.
you can get cat deterrent sprays but i don't think they work very well.

Shoot the little ******* if you see it again?
This is quite clearly a joke!
I feel your pain Tim, the two cats across the road are using my front lawn as an outside toilet, they're gonna get a shock pretty soon, anyhoo apparently you can get a cat pepper spray that you spray the area they normally use and they tend to stay away, you need to apply it 2 -3 times a week, but apparently it does work, either that or a swift kick up the ****, that does work.
Close the bedroom window so the dog can catch the cheeky blighter?

Leave all but 1 door open upstairs, a door which leads to a room containing Ophics dog, no more moggy no more problem.

But the poor dog might get it stuck in its throat. Would you want to insert your hand there to try to remove the scooby snack it just swallowed.

so the real question is how to you keep Jasper from the room of death? hmmm my plan has flaws. :(

Swallowed? it would crawl out of the room drenched in saliva having been affectionately licked half to death. However, it probably wouldn't come back.
Doesn't the cat's owner have some kind of responsibility for its behaviour? If your dog had done the same to the cat's owner's house I'm sure you would have had a knock on the door quite swiftly.

You could get another Jack Russell to guard the house while Jasper is out for his walk.:takeabow:

kitty won't come back after being chased by dog. I have three cats and two dogs. They all live in perfect harmony, but all cats other than in our pack, never ever try coming into our house, and my back door is open all summer.
However, it doesn't stop them laying and rolling in a tease, in the gardens on either side just shy of the gates, so my dogs get wound up because they can;t get at them.

Big bag of Cocoa munch (forgot the name) down garden centres you can get to spread on the garden and stops them going near it fo a good while

if you get a chance squirt some washing up liquid on the cats back. cats dont like water and are for ever licking themselves clean and hate the taste of the washing up stuff. also it foams up nicely when wet and someone may think the cat has rabies and shoot it for you.

I hope you read that somewhere and didn't just spend time thinking that up

Obviously not and cats will go where they want
How do we prevent a re-occurrence.
I have an old fireguard* that I put across the back door, nothing for a cat to jump onto and know they don't like climbing it :) Works for me and its not a permenat feature but I could, with a little spannering, make it a semi perminant thing by adding a couple of hooks to it/door so will swing open/closed for access by kids, thankfully I don't have to worry about them screaming round the house, cats are prefferred ;)
simply attach one of these to your house.

My Cat was a real pain for doing this, which was embarrassing and bad for his health. In the end I had to put a collar on him that stated in big letters do not feed because he would go to every old lady in the street and meow for food, devious little B*****D!
Trying to say to some one that I was really sorry, but could they please stop feeding him due to him getting fat was a nightmare. The best way to stop a cat is with a super soaker water pistol. A good squirt and they will not be back, also it does them no permanent harm, which I am sure Tim does not want to do.
Cats are belligerent little gits though and if they want something, they will take some heavy water based dissuasion to not want it. I trained my Cat Jasper, with a plant misting spray, not to do anti social things and with cat treats to do nice things, it is no wonder that he can control every old lady in the street, he is used to us!
